I agree. I also think it's worth considering that by keeping Man City in our good books by selling them Walker, we may give ourselves better chance of signing any unwanted players from them in the future. Walker was a player we could afford to lose and use the money to strengthen the squad.

I don't think they'll be selling anyone to us. We need to run a tight ship financially and selling Walker at a premium suits our model. City just chuck whatever amount of money is needed to address any situation.

Rose will make a mess of him.

It's interesting that people are happy with the clubs stance on not selling Dier, but also happy to sell a first team player to City. All this transfer is demonstrating is that if you tap one of our players up and get them to rock the boat, we will sell for the right price.

Sadly we are back to being a selling club now, and the likes of City, Chelsea and United will be circling around our top players with renewed confidence that they can force us to sell to them again.
You think Poch really wanted to keep Walker then?

Every club is a selling club. IF you have a player who you're happy to sell ;)
This can't be where we are now.
Was not meant as a negative thing. Man City have signed a player we were happy to let go afterall. They are a squad full of world class players so I would be happy to get one if they fall out of favor.

I hope this windows better than last summer, apart from Wanyama who Poch knew all about the rest were a waste of time and a waste of money.

He's only happy to sell him because he's fallen out with him. And why has he fallen out with him? We are told, that it's because he wanted more money because City tapped him up.

We didn't instigate this sale, it's naive to think otherwise. City tapped him up, he rocked the boat, and we have sold him as a result.

It shows that Poch's philosophy is so much about character and attitude. If you show signs of not buying the philosophy you're out at the first opportunity. I'm genuinely OK with that.

I also think it's a very well-judged ultimatum when it comes to someone like Dier, who is a natural born leader as is. It's a challenge from Poch that I would hope he'd be so fired up about that he'd accept.

In theory, I like it.

However, objectively, I do think that all fans apply their own club bias quite heavily in how we react to news, and very often underplay the role money plays in decision-making for the modern footballer.

Of course I hope, in the case of our players, you are right though.

Well you seem to know a lot about it. Who is your source?

It's not just about money though, various ITKs have mentioned that Poch and the fitness guys have had disagreements with Walker over his fitness. We've also had info that Walker was pissed about being dropped in favour of Trippier for the FA cup semi against Chelsea.

I can see a bunch of new contracts being handed out. Toby, Dier, Rose and others that are "under paid" to play a game, receive the best medical care, get free meals, and so forth. Ugh the life they live.
On the other hand...the average career length of a footballer is 8 years and Premier League players are at the top of their profession. Many will find decent paychecks after their footballing days are over but they have on average 8 years to fund their lives performing in an industry that is very lucrative to the owners, broadcasters, agents, etc. The top performers in most professions are multimillionaires or billionaires. So why should footballers, who can only do this for a very limited period, be any different?

Not suggesting they can't and won't. Just a selfless dick over here that doesn't understand greed. For shits, the 70k a week
bloke gets paid 4 times what I make in a year and I give 20% of my wages to charity. My own choice but I live a comfortable life and work 70 hrs a week cause I enjoy helping people. These dudes have access to money managers galore that can set them up for life when putting 5k in their retirement fund every week. Not my fault the lavish have to buy shit all day.

But I get both sides of the argument and by no means want to say they are not worthy. Just my high horse speaking.

Edit: off topic and mods please delete if you see fit. Apologies not for ITK thread.

Dier new contract on the table. (Not for RO)

Poch has told Levy if any players want to leave they can. He only wants players that will die for the shirt.

Fuck me. Poch's balls are bigger than that boulder in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

We were told in early in the year that he wanted a transfer further north for family reasons. There was all the crap about other clubs but in the end he went where we all knew he was going. It was just a matter of getting as much as we could - probably from them and no on else. No point in bleating on about it - he's as good as gone.

if Dier wants to move to Chelsea 'just for for family reasons' then that's a different story.

We really need an incoming now that Walker is off. I get the feeling Barkley will be the first.

I remember on Soccer AM someone suggested Walker has the worst hygiene at the club so he wont be missed the smelly bastard. Looking forward to Rose vs Walker this season though.

Just hope Rose gets fit in time to play Shitty. Really scared at the thought of Davies facing Walker.
