I wouldn't want us to go to the Bernebeau resting a load of players and effectively throwing the match just like Brendan Rodgers done when Liverpool were in the CL and I suspect that Poch wouldn't want to either.

Don't think of it as throwing the match; think of it as a tremendous experience for the kids :angelic:.

I don't for one minute think Poch will do it either but then he isn't a bitter, cynical, old ****, still angry that they nicked Bale and Ratboy off of us .

I know it's Real Madrid but in the context of our season this isn't actually an important match.

The crucial match in this group is the away leg against Dortmund on Nov 21. That will decide who will qualify for the knockout stages because no way are RM going to miss out.

Meanwhile, we have a vital match against Liverpool on Sunday with much of our first team squad looking tired and jaded. if I was Poch i'd start the squad players and kids, park the bus, and kick lumps out of them til they wished they'd never heard the phrase "special relationship".

(Of course, if I was actually travelling to the Bernabeu i'd be furious if Poch did this ;)).

Whilst I understand the logic I would say that this match may not be crucial but it is important.

If we have given up on the result before we even kick a ball that sends a poor message to the likes of Kane, Alli and Eriksen. These players will be looking at us and asking why should i stay and take the next step with Spurs. But if we go out there and match them player for player with a fantastic performance so they know they've been in a real dogfight and even come out with a win then our players will say "We're good enough to beat the best team in the world - no reason we can't win trophies and do it here".

We're one of the few European sides that I could see breaking into the group of elite European teams within the next decade and if we are not showing ourselves to be competing with them then we may as sell the players to Madrid now.

Or we can go there and make them remember the day they played the mighty Spurs!

Not a bad thing to be honest. His performances are a bit flakey at the moment and we need all 11 on their game for this one.

He is also very much a big game player, I'd have him out there in a second if he were available.

Truth is, we actually don't know the exact importance of the match. That we will only know in hindsight. It can prove to be decisive, it can prove to be superfluous, but we won't know until later in the group stage. As of now, it is a match that ought to be regarded with the highest seriousness. IF we were to win one point tomorrow, it COULD be the decisive point of the group stage.

It could, Real could well have cemented top spot by the time they face Dortmund again, which could well mean they are playing a Madrid second string.

That was the beginning of the end for Rodgers. I'd even go to say that that decision was what cost him his job. He lost the players from that point onwards. Fortunately Poch isn't a coward, we will play our strongest possible XI. Plus I think he's learnt about rotating too much in last season's campaign.

Can you imagine if we opened this thread on August 1st and someone had suggested starting Sissoko?! Testimony to how hard the guy has worked that so many are including him!

Has there been any news on davies?

Or testimony to how people don't realise that given an ulterior reality of all match fit, injury free CMs for all of this season, Sissoko wouldn't even be on the bench.

But even in that situation, people would have been advocating starting Oakley Booth, or Vertonghen or Llorente in midfield ahead of Sissoko.

Dembele & Rose have travelled
Rose must be closer to a return than we thought then. He won't play against Madrid but it shows they want him training with the team on a consistent basis. Wonder if he'll be on the bench against Liverpool and starting/sub appearance against West Ham.

You don't rest players vs. Madrid (and equivalent opposition) in CL. You just don't.

I completely agree...players want to test themselves against the best.

And beside this is more than an "oh well nothing to lose game" because our group is very very tight and as it stands i personally still see us as 3rd favourites to get through from this group and heres why...

I fancy dortmund to beat apoel comfortably both home and away whereas we COULD struggle bigtime at home v apoel.
By the time dortmund face madrid in the last round madrid will already be through and therefore dortmund getting a resukt is a high possibility.

Put simply i really feel we need a point from one of our games and this away game with all there injuries is the best chance.
