Hart has no business being near this squad.
Rose is probably fortunate - based on current form.

Lewis Cook was the inferior part of a cm2 with Onomah last summer..... How things change
Delph should be picked when fit imo as crucially he is versatile too which will be important in a 23 man squad.Real lack of quality in the LB position, the best on current form is probably Ashley Young.
Southgate's plans really coming together bringing 4 new players into the squad with hardly any games left before the World Cup. Anyone would think he doesn't know who to pick to go on the plane!
He gives new players a chance he doesn't know what his squad is. He makes no changes he gets accused of favouritism and not picking players on merit.
Put this in the russia thread, will put here too:
Any clues to what the England side will look like? The squad for these friendlies is woeful.
Pickford
Walker Cahill mawson rose
Henderson Dier
Sterling Alli Rashford
Kane
Only 2 centre backs and a good CM away from a decent side I suppose

If he hasn't changed his mind again then Southgate intend to play with a back trio and wing backs. Was a reason why he went with Gomez last time around, Mawson make sense too, Tarkowski not so much.

It was. McNulty is much better talking about internationals than club football.Interesting critique of the squad from the BBC.

Encouraging that Southgate sees Dier as a centre half.
I just hope that he ditches the back three unless we are up against top opposition. I think we are more suited to 4-3-3 with Dier and Stones as centre backs.
I'd say we're not in bad shape in defence, it's the central midfield position where we're incredibly weak, proven by the fact that our starting 2 there are Wilshire and Henderson.I'm in two minds about it to be honest. On the one hand, CB is one of our weakest positions and we have no depth there at all so a formation that requires 3 of them seems counter-productive. Then again, if we're going to play Walker and Rose they're both at their best when there's a back 3. I suppose ultimately it's a question of whether the boost to our wingbacks performance outweighs taking up 3 places in the lineup with our weakest position.
