Patterson
He has been doing well of late and is having a good Season so far,can play a number of positions across the midfield and he is a hard worker with a fair bit of ability that can strike a ball as well.Thanks. Has nice feet. Great ball from someone else to him for the goal on 19m. Nicely weighted and vision.
I remember when Scotland and Ireland could field mainly premiership starting 11's. Not sure whats happened to them.Patterson will probably get in Scotland national squad before he plays for us same with Troy parrott and Ireland.

Maybe a market that has been neglected?

CCV's development has really stalled. He was doing excellently in training by all accounts but in the couple of appearances he had with us and definitely in his loan spells he's looked troublingly immobile. He struggles with balls into the channels and in-behind and I've seen him look very ineffectual from set-pieces. I've also noticed him being slow to react to stuff and being ponderous on the ball which was never evident when he was in the youth set-up. You do have to wonder if he's had an injury problem that we don't know about. There is always the possibility that he hit his ceiling early and hasn't stalled at all but just reached his level. Whatever the issue is he's a long way away currently from being a defender you could confidently throw in for a run of games.
I agree that the club needs to take partial responsible for the stagnation of Edwards, KWP and especially Onomah. But I really feel at 16 CCV was just a man among boys and his sheer strength papered over a lack of mobility and leap. He was never good enough on the ball, especially when compared to Foyth and when he didn't grow (height) wise he was always gonna struggle defensively.Saying that if he did make it in the Championship as a CB that'd me a good effort. One thing you pointed out that I've always been surprised by is the ineffectiveness from attacking set-pieces. I didn't watch the US game I tried to, but even taking into his size he doesn't seem much of a threat which is weird when you look at Tanganga who's the same height but a much bigger threat. Possibly due to his leap. The stalling of CCV's development isn't just restricted to him. It's happened with a lot of our players.
In the 99 age group we have had 5 players previously in there, when we now occasionally have one. In the 00 age group we have had 4 regulars at u16 level and 3 fringe players and now we only have one. At u16/17 we are one of the best producers for England but our development is arguably the worse at the moment out of the top 6 clubs. I'd be interested to see how we compare with other clubs, in terms of loss of players from the national side as they go through the age groups. Even in the 98 age group we had Sterling, Whiteman and Edwards, now we have none, though Edwards admission is surprising.
This of course comes to no real surprise though as the coaching at u23 level is poor and the best players are kept from playing any football whatsoever for sometimes a couple of years at a time. This really needs to be looked at, looks like we're regressing here
You say we need to look at it as we're regressing, but surely the overall thing is whether or not they go onto first team football. When we were reguarly having 5 in a squad etc, it doesn't seem like many were going on to greater things. So surely it's a red herring metric that means not much?Saying that if he did make it in the Championship as a CB that'd me a good effort.
