Just don't have Trippier marking VVD at set pieces
Ooh you've hit on one of my gripes. Not just Trippier either. Sick of seeing opp teams score from a set peice against us and the goal comes from one of their biggest threats and he's being picked up by a fkin midget in Rose, Trippier or Moura etc. Rarely do you say oh Verts, Toby should have got that. Its always, WTF?
I question if Toby and Verts cower away and mark someone easier sometimes. Christ knows what Verts was doing for that goal last night hiding behind Trippier. Its like it isn't sorted beforehand and it looked like that last night as well.
Thats what is so frustrating. For all our fantastic players, great football and brilliant goals, we do give away some of the poorest, softest, shittiest, self inflicted goals ever. So easily avoidable imo. Ever corner against us my arse nips up. We're terrible at defending them.
Not much better at taking them either but you cant have everything lol

It's not really about people hiding. Trippiers job was to try his best to block the run of De Ligt. We've defended set pieces the same for a while. We essentially have 4 or 5 players zonally marking and 4 or 5 "man marking" (essentially blocking runs with very little care for where the ball is actually going). Now I'm not saying it's a good way to defend at corners but it's certainly not a case of us not being organised.

I expect to see a totally different way of organizing defensively from corners from every team once VAR comes into play full time next year otherwise there will be a shit ton of penalties given away!

I think if Winks is fit he should play. And I agree it would be very harsh on Sissoko but we need to keep the ball better than we have been doing. Problem is if Sissoko plays who do you drop further forward?
I dont drop anybody lol.
I'd play Erikson in with Sissoko, have Kane, Moura, Alli and Son all up there making Liverpools full backs think twice about steaming forward. Stop their full backs the jobs half done.
However if Son doesnt look right, as he did last night, or Kane looks off, I'd get them off and play Lamela or Llorente.
I think if we try and sit deep and counter then we'll lose but who knows. I'm bracing myself for conceding an early goal. Its just what we do these days. Probably due to constant changes in defence imo.

Heres who I definitely wouldn't start.
Trippier - he's lost it.
Wanyama - Not match fit.
Dier - Not match fit.
Llorente - sub. If Kanes not fit Id start him but make sure our boys know to launch that ball up to him asap.
Lamela - Super sub
Davies - Sub

Edit, I missed Sanchez. Not for me Clive. Seems to have gone backwards this season.

Now that I agree with.
Obviously they must have it sorted but its awful and clearly doesnt work imo.

Agreed on the opening goal. I've almost accepted already that we're giving them a 1 goal advantage.

Honestly if trips is playing. He will have to stick to his position more. His marking and tracking back has been causing so much grief. It’s not even worth using his occasional good cross towards the attack. Especially if it could end in a Liverpool counter

Lets not think about Trippier starting against Liverpool.
I dont want too.
I cant.
I wont.

Who is this Trippier character anyway?

Wow. This is such a tough call. And much depends on the fitness of; Kane, Winks and Aurier.

If all three are fit... I'd want to start the game by blunting Liverpool in midfield. Make it hard for their boys to settle on the ball. In which case I'd play something along the lines of:

Lloris

Aurier
Toby
Jan
Davies

Sissoko
Winks
Rose

Eriksen
Dele

Kane

I think that's a lineup that would be more physically imposing, and would make it hard for the Liverpool players to settle on the ball. Yeah, it's a bit outta left field playing Rose in that midfield role, but given his ability to get stuck in and track runners, I'd start him there.

Now, as the game goes on, and if we're drawing or even 1 up or 1 down at the 60th minute mark, I then introduce some quickness and skill into the attack with Son, Moura and Lamela for Davies, Dele and Winks... then move to a 433, with Eriksen and Lamela with Sissoko in midfield. Puts two players up top with Kane who are fresh and quick... against a back four that might start to tire.

That all said... I really haven't a clue who might start!!!

Aurier doesn't have enough game time/fitness to be ready for the final, Trippier is not good enough, so if I was Poch, I would put Sanchez there, hey I know it's a big risk, but we don't have a solid RB for the final.

Why are we so defensively weak anyone? It's the same team that's regularly had one of the best defenses in the league previous

Sissoko at rb anybody? Id feel very safe with him and rose dominating the fullback areas. If winks is fit this may be the best way for us as extreem as it sounds.

--------------Toby----------Jan----------------
Sissoko---------Winks--------------Rose
---------------Dele---------Eriksen-----------
-----Moura--------Kane-----------Son------

This is the winning formula!

If Winks isn’t fit enough, have to play Eriksen deeper, taking the ball off the CBs. We’ll need someone who can get their foot on it in the centre as Liverpool will swarm us early.

Sissoko and Wanyama would struggle under the press as the two.

Alli needs to play higher and not in a deep CM role. It’s where he’s effective. Would not be surprised if one of Moura or Son doesn’t play, if Kane plays.

Constant changes, of both full backs and centerbacks and formation. Verts and Sanchez were ok together playing every week until Toby came back and then its been 'guess the defence' every game since. Defenders need to get into a routine of playing together and the best defences are those that are changed the least imo. As we were when we had best defence and Chelsea also.
Doesnt help Trippier has gone so off the boil he's frozen.

Fk it seems I've been Trippier bashing non stop lol. Apologies. And for what its worth I believe he is just off form and is a very good player. We've seen him be fantastic. But christ knows whats up with him but he's playing so poor and is currently a liability. Oops, I did it again.

Mane will rinse anyone whose positioning is not perfect at RB. It has to be Trippier or Foyth unfortunately (unless Aurier makes a Lazurus like return but has been out ages and will not be match fit).

Sissoko is a beast in the middle of the pitch and if he's not in there Liverpool will overwhelm us right through the middle of the pitch.

But mane will rince trippier and foyth even if they ARE positionally perfect. Id day just keep sissoko goal side at all times and simply nullify mane with his power. Id feel very safe in the wide areas with rose and sissoko. Foyth will give a defo penalty im certain. Trippier will get run at and beaten each and every time.

Let's hope Verts is fit...doesn't look too good for him, would be a shame if he has to miss out...
