so basically he's saying "now look here levy, they're all shite, chuck em all out, if you want to win anything, let's just sign sevilla".

Whilst i don't believe this specific ITK is true, I don't think the fact he speaks Spannish would be a big deal. I'm sure he'd have spoken to people above him ie Levy/Comolli etc, about his initial thoughts on the squad and once it's at board level it can easily leak out to message boards.

Less chance of that now Blabbermouth has gone.

I can't imagine he rates any of the defence, and I don't think it would include injured players he's not seen yet.

The only ever players to keep their places, excluding defenders, across the two games he's had are:

Lennon
Jenas
Malbranque
But like the defence, he's not had a great deal of options for change other than to bring on Zokora, which he did, and against Blackpool bring on Tainio which he did, and giving the feeling he really doesn't rate Kaboul!

He started Boateng, for Boro, which was a new one, so theoretically he rates him too on what he's seen in training.

Keane and Berbatov/Bent and Defoe have been swapped for each other in each game, hard to tell much other than he sees them more as partnerships than interchangeable players perhaps. Who starts up front in the next two games might give more indication, if there not rotated evenly, as to who he prefers there.

I think he's most likely still getting a feel for the capabilities of his squad, it would seem early to be passing judgement. Perhaps he was referring to performance in a particular session?

I think the young players like Bale, Kaboul, KP, Taarabt, Lennon and maybe the Hudd are safe as they're young and will improve, then im guessing theres 6 senior players who are the 'untouchables' Berb, Keane, Bent, Jenas, Lee, Chimbs/Defoe.

Of course this itk may not be true but obviously he will be sizing up the current squad judging by training and the games played so far so he will start to have his ideas who he thinks will fit into his system and who doesn't. So for arguments sake if he did have 6 players who he thinks fits into how he plays I'd say:

Bent
Defoe
Lennon
Berbatov
Boateng
Chimbonda

Although Lee, Malb, and Keane have all performed well recently I don't think they fit into Ramos' style. If he wants to implement the style of football he played at Sevilla here then I don't think those guys would be getting much game time. He could try Malb on the right but from memory he hasn't been too good there in the past and is also not a natural winger.

And my above list doesn't include injured players eg Bale and King

The ITK would also have to be fluent in Spanish.

My thoughts entirely. The conversation he was probably having with Gus went along the lines of (originally in spanish, now with some rusty translation):-

JR - What do you fancy for dinner tonight, Gussy baby?

Gus - Well, now that you're asking a chinese would be good, hombre.

JR - Take away?

Gus - Sounds good to me, me old china.

JR - Right, give me your order. I've had a look at the menu and I fancy some of the ribs - I'll have 6 of 'em and we can get rid of the rest."

I don't see what the fuss is. It definitely won't include injured players, so plus King and Bale, and Rocha for RB, we've got 9 decent players. Plus the fact you don't have to be fit to be a keeper, there's 10. That means we only 1 more player and we got ourselves a team, homies.

I'd suggest the whiteboard in Gus's office looks something like this:

1. Robbo (see Commolli)
2. Rocha
3. Lee*
4. Kaboul (see anyone who can teach discipline)
5. King (see Eileen Drewery)
6. Boateng*
7. Jenas* (in the kingdom of the blind...)
8. Bale
9. Berbatov
10. Keane*
11. Lennon*

The *ed players are the ones I think he rates. Plus either Defoe or Bent. Probably Bent.

I pray to all the gods that one of those players he rates isn't Jenas.

Jenas and Zoko will be very worried imo, while Ramos is used to working with players like Keita, Poulsen etc he will soon find these two out if he hasn't already

Actually I think Jenas will suit him well, quick and pacey, fast, 90 minutes running.
Not necessarily a tough guy.

I would expect the 4 strikers to be in the 6 as scoring goals hasn't been a problem for us. He may want Defoe to work on his finishing, Bent on his confidence, Berbatov on his work rate and Keane on playing a higher line.

It's more likely to be the Defence and Midfield that give him cause for concern, minus any two players you'd like to guess at. My guess would be Malbranque and Boateng.

I'm glad our continental structure can allow such seamless transition.

Erm, 6 players are UNTOUCHABLE. Wow, that is quite good. So he must really rate those six players. I was under the impression taht all players could be replaced if better ones became available. Apparently we have six of the best players in their positions in the world. Sweet!

I think Ramos will want to play the same system as he did at Sevilla, but with better players because Sevilla were famous for buying talented unknown players on the cheap.

So, the questions are:
i) which of our current players fit his system?
ii) which players can he buy who can play his system (with £40 million plus whatever he raises from shipping out some of the current squad)?

I think the following players can play his system:
Chimbonda
Lennon
Bale
KP Boateng
Berbatov
Bent
King

The following may be able to adapt their game:
Jenas (less box-to-box and more high-tempo pressing)
Tainio (ditto)
Zokora (definitely a good enough athlete, but are his footballing and positional skills good enough?)
Defoe (would have to work a lot harder, constantly pressing and then making forward runs - like Luis Fabiano @ Sevilla)
Dawson (if he recovers his confidence)
Taarabt (real challenge - great natural ability, but he could only play wide left for Ramos, and he'd have to track back)
BA-E (if he ever gets fit and bothers learning English)
Kaboul (Ramos' CBs don't attack, and he'd have to learn defensive discipline & positioning)
Rocha (if he's good enough)
Routledge (if he's good enough)

The following are not Ramos style players:
Keane (he's not a target man like Berba or Kanoute, and he's not pacy, but Robbie's scoring record is amazing over the past 6 months, and he's definitely one of our few "senior pros")
Malbranque (not fast enough to play wide right, and Juande doesn't like his wide players to cut inside. CM? Not if he's going to run with the ball - Ramos wants his CMs to press, break up play and then pass for fast counterattacks, primarily down the wing.)
Lee (again, Ramos doesn't like his wide players cutting inside.)
Huddlestone (not mobile enough, and not aggressive enough to be a Poulsen-style enforcer).

And it does make a mockery of the DoF system. A new coach comes in, on huge wages and a long contract, and sez: "this is my system", and the DoF sez: "mmm but these are our players". I have no doubt Ramos will win, with huge disruption to our playing squad.

Ironically, poor old BMJ always dreamed of playing a Dutch 4-3-3, with a van der Vaart-type playing a classical Number 10 role, but never had the power to get the players he wanted, and had Zokora (probably on his way out of the club) given to him as a replacement for his favourite son, Carrick.

I think it's crap.

Probably taken out of context and souped up to look like meaty info.

If he didn't rate the squad......then he's only in it for the money
.

what other reason would Ramos have joined us?
