Happy with that.
Nobody stood out as being terrible, in my view, with good performances by many. Nice cameo from Bale and nice to see Scarlett again, he looks promising from what little we've seen.
Good game from Dele.

No complaints at all.
Doherty was poor as usual never thought i be begging for Aurier to be playing? everyone else played well.

I don't think we should overhype Scarlett too much but I'm pretty sure the name Mbappe will be erased once Dane has arrived.

Yes, though they do all look a bit raw still and some way from the first team, which is what you’d expect really. Lavinier, being 20, on this performance I think he’s unlikely to make it here, but you never know and nerves play a part too. I liked the look of John, and at 17 he has time on his side, but producing CMs is kind of the thing we do at this club and he has a lot ahead of him (Devine, skipp and White). Scarlett is the closest to being ready to contribute to the first team and even though he’s raw, he always looks sharp, wouldn’t surprise me to see him in the first team picture two years or so from now.

I think while he looked a bit shaky for the first few minutes, Lavinier definitely improved as the game went on, looked physically ready and had some lovely plays with Gareth after gaining a bit of confidence. He also just joined this summer after supposedly impressing a lot on trial so definitely too soon to rule him out.

Ha, I thought Lavinier looked decent barring the slip, assured on the ball, strong, quick, didn’t hide at all. I thought John looked the least likely of the three to make it but you can’t judge on a 20 minute cameo.

Great to see the kids get a run out though. Would rather watch them play with fight and hunger each week than some of the shite we’ve endured from so called first team players this season.
He looked fine, but he was over hitting a few passes and often making poor choices, like the pass back to the goalkeeper. But these are things you can allow on a professional debut where it’s just to really get a feel for the game. When it comes to John he’s on a completely different developmental stage, so you can’t really compare them. What I liked about John is how he covered space more than anything on the ball.

Well Troy will need a proper loan next season I think so why not keep Dane with the first team squad and then the year after start looking at loans

Things looking better in midfield and attack just the defence needs sorted and hopefully we go on a good run to the end of the season. Last few weeks pervormances have been good just stupid defensive errors costing us.
I'm hesitant to give too much credit for the progressive play. Wolfsberg play an attractive, but ultimately suicidal game, because they press and leave space, without having the calibre of player to get away with it. Once we deal with their press, there is acreage in midfield for all our players and plenty of time to ping the ball about without being smothered, the way Premiership sides can clutter and clog up play.

Against Burnley and Palace, no matter whom we play in midfield, it will look very different.

Not too sure about Lavinier. He is not 17 anymore, definitley was nervous as fck. Would need a League 1 loan next season, but he will have it hard to kick on here. Bit like Marsh, Georgiou etc. . Not bad but not the level recquired I think.

Both have been training full-time with the first team though IIRC. Well, except for White lately since he's gone out on loan

Yeah thats what youth players always did under Poch. train with the first team and never play. :D

Yep. We can't let ourselves get carried away but there were definitely positives to build from today and the smiles on the players faces were really enjoyable to watch. This is the kind of game we've had a tendency to make a lot harder than it had to be recently so I'm definitely happy about that at least. Let's just hope that we can continue building on this against Burnley :)

No can’t rule him out at all, it’s just he’s making his debut at 20 and looks raw, so the odds are stacked against him. As it is for all youngsters to be fair. Similarly, it’s rare for an academy drop out from another top club to make it when moving sideways if you like, but Stewart did alright at Liverpool for example. But absolutely could make it, I also felt that you could see strengths in regards to his running.

Scarlett’s assist in the Europa league is the first one by a 166 year old since MBappe against us

Looking forward to finding out who is the next OAP that Jose will give a debut to. Exciting times.

I liked the look of Lavinier, once the overeager puppy energy got burnt off.

He must be doing something right in the U23's just to get on the bench, let alone get a debut.

Some interesting academy prospects coming through, especially Scarlett.
