disagree with my almost namesake above...though I know nothing of his life outside of football, Woodgate would be an immense figure alongside King / show Dawson and Kaboul the way

must be the only one here who doesnt want him! he's bad news, live in boro and from what ive seen he's a complete muppet, his bodyguard is also one of the biggest villains up here, totally in with the wrong crowd, always drunk and smokin amongst other things.... its no wonder he's always injured he lives the wrong lifestyle for a footballer! rant over!

Not being funny but you could easily be talkin bollocks and even if ur saying these things from "what you've heard", you dont even know that that's not also bollocks either so I'll save my judging of his personality & lifestyle for now.

Bottom line is that like ledley, when he's fit, he's one of the best centre backs England have so I'll take that experience and quality any day right now over either of Kaboul, Rocha (both of whom I rate) and Gardner (who is even more injury prone than JW and will likely be sold in summer).

You're definitely not alone.

Let's pray together that he never comes to WHL

its true about his lifestyle...when i lived in the smog I had a mate who used to go drinking with him and said he was a complete **** but I dont think Ramos would put up with this so i think he would have to sort himself out or leave .... if he did leave then people would know the reason and his stock would fall

I swear Commoli is using my technique for signing players on LMA, I call it 'carpet bombing' - put a bid in for 5/6 players for the required position and see what happens.

On another note I would be impressed if we signed either of these centre halfs.

Woodgate made over 30 appearences for Boro last year. I know he had his fair share of injuries at real, but they look to be in the past somewhat.

I suspect we could be in for both Woodgate and Garay.

Juande has had plenty of time to make judgements about our CBs, and one good game against the goons is unlikely to convince him that Dawson has suddenly become a top-class, dominating, CB.

The overriding sense that I got from the Ramos interview (variously reported on Sky and the Times) was his ambition to make us world-class. Woodgate and King are, along with Rio Ferdinand, the three best English CBs, and both are top class. If Garay lives up to his reputation as the "new Passarella", he will become world class. But Ramos knows CBs take time to develop, especially in a very fast league like the EPL, and by the summer the likes of Barca and Real Madrid are likely to be in for Garay at twice the current price.

Buying Woodgate should allow Ramos to introduce Garay gradually to English football, a luxury that poor old Kaboul didn't have....

Having said all that, I am worried by the rumours about Woodgate's bad habits off the pitch. Ramos, Alvarez and our new club doctor/dietician won't take kindly to the sorts of antics Woodgate was allegedly up to at Boro. If the ITK that Juande was getting rid of Chimbonda because his off the field behaviour was setting a terrible example is correct, then bringing in another Big Time Charlie seems counter-productive...

We as fans spend WAY too much time pre-judging players about what sort of lives they lead when frankly it's none of our business, especially if it doesn't affect the way they play the game. I appreciate that it matters but right now we don't know the facts and all we're hearing are rumours!

Just because someone's mate 'supposedly' went drinking with a player and says he's a tosser doesn't mean shit. Someone I think is a complete prick the next person could think the same guy is a total legend. For all we know this guy who went drinkin with him is a fuckwit himself and JW along with everyone else thought so, so ended up taking the piss out of him all evening....?? That would certainly make him come back and say Woodgate was an a-hole when it's not strictly true.

Let's save the character assessment's shall we fellas.

Call it jostling for position to be the next hate figure in the gunsights of the double standards brigade.

No thanks on Woodgate, not a good buy... I don't believe his injury problems are behind him.

BBC writes:

A series of niggling injuries have troubled Woodgate this term and he is not in the squad for the FA Cup fourth round tie at Mansfield on Saturday.

His injury history is well documented - not convinced he'd pass a Spurs physical. This appears to be a desperation move? I don't understand Comoli...

Injury-schminjury. He's a cracking centre-half. If he plays as regularly for us as he has for Boro, he'll be a steal at £7m.

Plus, I like having former Leeds players at Spurs because I live here and it annoys their fans no end.

Comoli is a man with his knackers being firmly squeezed by Levy. Levy knows that Jol wasn't the whole issue and that Comoli's signings are partly to blame.
As others have commented, Levy will have told him that the DOF system means that the manager goes and he stays 'for consistency' but if it doesn't work this time round it will be Comoli who gets it. He's now running scared and taking all the advice Jol and undoubtedly Ramos have passed his way about signing experience and shoring up our defense.
It is equally possible Levy has seen the light - and monetary value - in actually achieving 4th rather than hoping to off the back of signing youth whos value will increase if they pull it off.

I have a friend that used to (may still do for all I know) work for the NotW. He told me one Friday that they had pictures of Woodgate and his then missus Katie whatsherface (won Big Brother) rolling around in a hotel room in bundles of cash snorting lines of coke off each other. Woodgates agent had taken out an injunction to stop the pics getting published, and it stuck, so the NotW couldn't print them.

Didn't stop him being a marvelous player, but he does seem to be rather a poohead.

If woodgate stays fit, and plays to his own usual form, he'll be a great signing.

But I did say IF!

Anyway just want to point out to people that Woodgate is NOT cup-tied for the Carling Cup and FA Cup.

What he is a poo head for snorting coke and rolling in money with a fit bird?

The question is which of these signings or potential signings are made by Commoli/Jol/Ramos/Levy or even still from Arneson's list.

Levy = big money on young English/British players (Bent, Jenas)?
Commoli = French youngsters (Kaboul, Taarabt)?
Ramos = god knows?
Jol = ??
all complete guesses btw I have no idea!
