Perisic is so experienced and he has won loads. He will be so important for us in such games, leading the lads in the dressing room, from the bench or on the field.

I think that is essentially true. But I also think that there are other factors. We have 3 teams who see us as their main rivals and for whom the home game against us is a must not lose, Chelsea, arsenal and West ham. So in those 3 games they give their all and there are NEVER any gimmees! it is difficult for us to match that so we either lose just based on that alone or if we match them the game is decided by quality. Chelsea have had a better team than us for most of the last 30 years and so we have lost. Arsenal for 20 and we lost, west ham very rarely and so we have won some.

It isn't psychological and certainly won't be with this squad so it will boil down to whether we can match them for passion and then let our football do the rest. Will be a tough game.
Yes without a doubt, I posted earlier, this this is the game Chelsea fans really most hate to lose

Chelsea v Spurs preview -

The most courageous act is still to think for yourself. Aloud.

It's time to put that into practice.

No matter how scary it sounds to be putting ultra faith in Tottenham to win a football match at Stamford Bridge, if I'm fully invested in the theory that Spurs are a threat in every competition they play in this season then I simply must back them to beat an undercooked and underwhelming Chelsea side as the outsiders at 21/10 with Sky Bet.

Many of you will be screaming at me right now to point out that Chelsea have lost just one of the last 32 league meetings at home with Spurs, winning 21. But this is a new era at Tottenham with Antonio Conte at the helm. They are going places and are playing with supreme energy whilst Chelsea - on evidence of the last six months - are stagnating.

This is a perfect time for Spurs to be heading to west London.

Thomas Tuchel clearly isn't happy with the tools at his disposal ahead of the transfer window closing and that was stamped all over their slow and steady showing in the 1-0 win over Everton.

There seemed a lack of attacking imagination and cohesion as they stumbled to an expected goals (non penalties) figure of just 0.86 - quite a staggeringly low amount considering they won 16 corners in the match against a team that can't defend set pieces. A lack of imagination in forward areas has been a worry in 2022. Chelsea have scored just 34 goals from an expected figure of 32.1 since the turn of the year with Liverpool (46), Man City (50) and Tottenham (51) all showing far greater numbers in the final third.

With Chelsea's defence still performing amongst the best in the Premier League and Spurs very unlikely to run away with the game, I'm happy to be greedy and boost the price by backing Conte's men to win by one goal at 7/2.

SCORE PREDICTION: 0-1

Conte will be desperate to win this. If we don't, I hope he doesn't go nuclear with the team.

Nah hope he goes nuclear at the start, send them out fired up, blitz them, couple of early goals!,
I think we edge a combined 11 (son, kane, kulu, lloris, romero + 1 or more of bentancur, bissouma, perisic would get in I reckon), and, for first time in years, I think we have a bench that can compete (and IMO is more balanced)
Let's go dominate them and watch them wilt in the sun!

“They had maybe the opposite last seven months from us, given the situation. Everything was clear. They had something clear to fight for. They put all the energy to make it to Champions League football. Their targets were clear, the set up in the club was clear. They took advantage of this situation and had a very aggressive transfer period. Very straightforward and excellent transfer period to strengthen in quality and depth. That’s why it’s one of the toughest opponents. Always is with Antonio Conte’s teams. That’s what we’re facing Sunday."

“I don’t tell you because I think we have to be very disciplined in certain regions of the game. They stepped the level up in their game. They play in the same structure so far and have a pattern in offensive pressing and in their attitude to defend. This changes a lot. It’s very important that we are good on the ball. It’s very important we are the dominant team. Hopefully put the game in the opponent's half and control the counter-attacks before everybody else sees them. Hopefully we don’t talk about counter-attacking because they are maybe one of the best teams in the world in counter-attacks and these movements. We did fantastic jobs in closing it down so the players were unbelievably disciplined and aware of the situations. That’s why we can never lose the structure and never lose our head while we are attacking. This is the moment, I believe, to stop the counter-attacks. When they start already you are already in big trouble given the quality, speed and determination of Tottenham so we need to be smart and stop the counter-attacks before they start.”

About injuries, a little problem with Clement Lenglet. I don't think he's available for the game against Chelsea. He had a little problem. Skipp, I think a couple of weeks.
[With Lenglet] a little problem of fatigue. He's a bit tired in his abductor, in the muscle. Nothing serious but only precaution, but not good to take a stupid risk. He's had a training session apart, but I think that will be good for him.

I have been doing some work this week that includes me watching some prominent football people such as Wenger talk about Chelsea's performance in the World club Cup.

They like to get 5 players spread across the frontline, although I'm sure Tuchel will be a bit wary of that as we have the players to severely hurt them on the counter.

I think we need to take the same approach as we did against Liverpool. Frustrate them but look to pour numbers forward in transition.

Shame about Lenglet being out. Sounds like one of those injuries you get when your workload and training style changes.

Loved this little snippet from the Press Conference though:

"Has the gap closed to Chelsea"
AC "I don't know, I'm not a journalist"
