It feels internally like we were absolutely battered, but apart from the Havertz sitter did they really have a decent chance which didn't result in a goal? I can think of 3 we had.

My takeaways:

Chelsea's 4-2-2-2/5-2-3 fucked us again until Conte switched to a 4-2-4. Dissapointed in Conte for not making the switch earlier. We were much better after the switch but were naturally a bit discombobulated defensively leading to James goal.

Davies is a good player but struggles physically in these games and doesn't have incredible technical ability to make up for it. The levels between him and Koulibaly are clear.

In general the technical performance of the team was poor. Not enough technical security, particularly noticeable from Son to be honest. Bissouma would have offered valuable press resistance. This also clear in the wing back department. I like Sess and Emerson but the latter particularly is not good enough. James and Cucurella are a tier above and it showed.

In general we struggled qualitatively but mainly tactically. Conte needs to do better and I hope we can react in the remaining weeks of transfer market.

Yeah he said Tuchel said it kicked off because he wouldn't look him in the eye, but Tuchel didn't say that at all. He played it all down to pure emotion and gave no actual reason at all.
Tuchel said exactly that. He said "I thought that when you shake hands you are supposed to look in the eyes". He even points at his eyes when they square up. He made that all happen at the end. Conte offered his hand as he walked past then tuchek wouldn't let go of contes hand.

Sterling should have scored, but put it over the bar.

Think couple of things we can take from today.
Our distribution form the back was nowhere near good enough, esp when pressed, probably why we spent so long seeking a Bastoni type and why Lengelet might be so important in matches like this.
Our midfielders have plenty of quality, but need to show more when other teams press like today, often likes of Dier kicked long aimless passes, but in fairness there was not a lot on, think Richy made a difference, as he brought an energy that was not very evident, kept their players busier and lessened effect of the press.
Son on the other hand had the opposite effect, tracking is not his forte and Chelsea took advantage of that, not one of his better days, but hopefully better days are just around the corner, at least now we have options.

Agree. But how many times have we played them off the park and lost or not got what we deserved in recent years

very rarely, if ever? It’s like a complete mental block whenever we step foot in the stadium. I was hoping that today that mentality would change but let’s be honest we should be walking away with nil points which is what our performance deserved.

People saying that's how teams win titles is total delusion lol.

I'm ecstatic about the result today but the performance was shocking, we are miles away from challenging for the league on the basis of today. You won't see City or Liverpool going to Chelsea and getting played off the park like we did.

At the end of the day, PEH, Davies, Sess, Royal for starters are not title winning players in their positions.

They are miles off the likes of Jorginho, Kante, Reece James, Koulibaly, Cucarella etc.

I said before the game, more than the result I wanted to see us put in a performance that showed we belong at this level. We've had the reverse. A lucky smash and grab and played like we were lower level minnows who just stole a point.

We probably won't play as badly at that again all season, at least I hope not, but we weren't just poor today, we looked absoslutely miles off the level required.

Even the Kane interview afterwards was weird, he was like "today was all about showing how far we've come", but we didn't show anything. We showed the gap is still huge between the two teams in a match up. If today was the players showing how far we've come, we haven't come anywhere.

It's a one off game I get it, but fucking hell, that was utter shite.

I'm so happy we didn't lose and mugged them off at the end, but on the other I'm so disappointed with the performance today. Why can't we ever just turn up against them and give as good as we get?

Out of the two teams today, Chelsea will be the ones fighting it out with the top 2, not us. But football is weird, if we do the business against the other teams we can finish above them.

But I still come back to, I want upgrades on the above players, they just aren't top tier end of story.

I can see why you say this, but my take is a bit different.
Chelsea, by Tuchels own admittance pre-game, set out to nullify our play and desperately keep it in our half and nick a goal. During that first half where they "dominated" us, they didn't have a single good goalscoring opportunity apart from a fantastic volley from a defender on the edge of the box.
Their only proper chances came when we briefly moved to a back four which we clearly weren't used to anymore and as soon as we moved back to a back three we were solid defensively again.
The issue in this game was that they got that goal early and could keep on frustrating the hell out of us while playing it around in their back line.

There are a lot of areas we can and need to improve in, but both teams had the same amount of chances today(1.7 vs 1.5 XG) and while we perhaps did get slightly lucky with some decisions going our way, I personally don't see this as the dreadful performance some others do.

It's Chelsea away after all. It was always going to be incredibly tough.

2-2 my prediction. Nice to be right every one in a million. I was too hyped watching the game to be fully appreciative of it. MOTD highlights for me. Well done boys

Yes we weren't great but imo Chelsea won't play with as much intensity and passion many more times this season.

We suffered and hung in there and came away with something, Conte will be very happy with this aspect.
