Sorry what exactly are you disagreeing with? You think the dross this evening is because we didn’t do enough in the window? You think we can’t compete with sporting Lisbon without another 2-3 windows?? If you’re taking about winning the Prem fine, but as a reason for tonight’s performance is doesn’t wash at all
You seem very angry mate peace out.
??
I was disagreeing that it was a ‘bullshit excuse’, as I said I think we are still short of quality (Davies, PEH, Emerson all need upgrading and aside from Kulu we had nothing off the bench, another option like a Zaniolo would’ve been good as would a top class ball playing CB to help our build up play.

Sure we didn’t play great tonight and have had a few off halves or games this season but I’m not throwing my toys out the pram as I fully fully trust Conte and it’s a very long season.

We are 2nd in the league and that is our 1st loss in what 10 games or more?

And we did compete with Sporting, we had a reasonable amount of chances, but I also think you’re underrating Sporting, they’re in the CL for a reason.

I think we will click eventually and it’s a long season so I’m not worried at all right now.

Give bissouma a go next too bentacur because if he surely would have ran at them

The drive he can offer from midfield would just be another dimension. He's either suffering from a covid hangover or poor in training but he deserves a run surely

Conte has to take some blame here, we looked very comfortable but no cutting edge. Something needed a change.

Changes should have been made earlier kulu, Spence and sess should have been the changed but only kulu which unbalanced the team.

Should have put Bissouma on for the last 10 minutes to nail down the point for a draw too.

That was the easiest away game out if the group. Oops

I don't see the snobbishness. People are saying how shit we are. Sporting were ok, nothing special, defended quite well and broke well, but we were passive shite. It's not like Sporting had to play well to beat us, we should be putting these teams under far more pressure. Did their keeper have a save to make? barely.

Son and Kane not a single shot on target. The football is pretty woeful and has been all season.
Kane did have a shot on target the goalie saved it.

We do need to talk about Son and Kane.

They are world class on their day. And they give so much.

But far too often they have off days.

The issue is you need your big hitters to be at it almost 100% of the time if you want to win stuff.

Look at De Bruyne at City? Or Benzema?

Theyll have a poor game every once in a while but 9 times out of 10, they'll produce.

Kane produces a lot and its not like he doesn't come good in big games. But there's plenty of evidence (finals, semi finals) to show him having zero effect, or worse, hindering our play.

As brilliant as Son is, Kulusevski offers more in the build up and link up.

I don't think you can play both Richarlsion and Son away from home, they are both largely runners, although Richarlison is better at hold up. Think you need a creative player who can hold the ball up.

Son needs to improve on his streakiness. And Kane needs to stop having these games where he looks like a Championship player in big games.

Until those things change we won't won anything.

Some of the comments about Conte on here are shocking. Yes it was very bad tonight, and it’s puzzling that so many of our new signings don’t get a look in. But results wise he’s been delivering at a level we haven’t seen since peak Poch (who also delivered some appalling CL performances even in his best season - 16/17).

Let’s see how we respond against Leicester. We could be top of the league this time next week.
Yes. But what would you rather watch this or peak poch?

Conte is an amazing manager. I just find us incredibly dull to watch.

A number of players playing with feet stuck in the mud or standing admiring their pass rather than driving forwards, Hojberg with way too many wayward passes, in the first half there seemed to be far to many attempts at fancy flicks around the corner etc. I don't know what Conte was thinking with his lack of subs especially with both CM's on yellows.
Far too many thinking we just need to show up again!
And sorry but Sonny needs a game on the bench, I've been all for let him play his way into form and if the next match was the city game I'd even agree that tactically there's enough reasons to give him the start but I don't think there's any excuse not to drop him to the bench at the weekend.

I don't get it; is Conte utterly beasting them in training or are players having a massive adrenaline dump before the match? I'm struggling to understand how we've been really not at it so far this season.

The CL is all about making the most of your moments - they did, we didn't.

On to the next.
This.
As usual a lot of overreacting in here.
Not the best performance but we could’ve won that if we’d taken some of our earlier chances.
We’ll be fine it’s so early in the season.

I think we’ll see Lenglet, Sessegnon, Doherty, Bissouma and Kulusevski all starting at the weekend.
I hope you’re right, but I just don’t see wholesale changes being made based on what Conte has done so far.

He keeps saying how congested the fixture schedule is, and then refuses to use the squad that’s available.

Maddening!

We were very flat. Absolutely reeked of Europa League.

Son and Kane need to get their acts together soon, we can’t carry them much longer.

Conte needs to start using his squad.

All that being said, we were reasonably comfortable despite playing in 2nd gear. Should have been a draw, but those last 2 mins will obviously shape the narrative til the weekend.

Disappointing, but hopefully a little wake up call that isn’t too costly.
