How can anyone watch Hugo and not see Pickford as a huge upgrade at this point in time?

there is literally no debate

realistically he’s the best risk reward investment out there that would want to join us

I don’t think my heart could take Pickford behind our current defenders.

Whilst there may be stats to prove me wrong, I always feel that he has a mistake in him

I also, irrationally, hate how angry he always looks/gets.

I’d prefer other options.
I would prefer to have more players that get angry than the current pathetic passive bunch

Pickford is good enough and is also English which greatly helps in terms of our home grown count so it's a win win all round.

I cannot understand how people watch Pickford and think he is a top keeper. Wouldn’t start for any of the big six.
He is an excellent modern keeper, who to be fair does have 1 or 2 howlers a season.. but that's an improvement on the current 1 or 2 per game.

Maybe it’s just me. I don’t like his distribution, and like Hugo has the occasional brain fart.
His distribution is top class and he hasn’t been prone to brain farts for about 2 seasons. I’ve seen the same out of date opinion about him being error prone posted about 30 times now in here lol He’s matured into a really top class keeper the last couple of seasons and been the only reason Everton haven’t been relegated

Think his distribution is far better than Hugo's.
Distribution from Lloris is a real problem as it constantly puts us back under pressure. Think we glossed over that for a while as he's usually a good shot stopper but now he's plaming crosses into his own net and parrying balls to the feet of the striker.
Pickford is a pretty solid keeper.

That simply isn’t true. Just 2 months ago when we played them he let the ball slip from his hands after a poor shot and tripped Kane over thus conceding a pen. I feel like we should be looking for better than Pickford.

This is such an out of date opinion on him.
See below;
2 errors leading to goals in the last 2 seasons, and 2 in the season before that.

From Opta where the stats are from;

When a player makes an error, which leads to a goal or shot conceded. Also used for spills and attempted claims or saves by a goalkeeper which directly leads to a second attempt to score

His distribution is miles better than Hugo as well, he's probably only behind Ederson and Allison in terms of ability in that respect. Maybe Ramsdale as well.

I would rather go for Raya - also satisfies HG quota.
More organised & focussed keeper. I am not against Pickford but feel Raya is much better

  1. Lloris past seasons avg save percentage is 75% , its down to 69% this season, lowest of all compared. Sanchez is similar. Hence Sanchez is not my preference.
  2. Raya makes sooooo many more long passes because thats Brentford game with Ivan Toney. But whats hidden in this his ability to make though passes from 40 yards out , flat to a attacker. His distribution is very good but he isnt your Unai Simon who does 5 yards back passing in their own box. He is not typical Spanish keeper. I guess, we would welcome such a keeper at nervy Tottenham
  3. Raya isnt greatest on Penalties. If we look at their entire career, Pickford is best with 16% penalty save rate (vs Lloris 7%, Raya 5%). May be this is skewed because, both Pickford & Lloris are more experienced in international levels. Raya didnt get to face many pens in Blackburn or Brentford to gain experience

Pickford or Raya ok. Prefer Raya. Sanchez - nope , still raw.

Agree 100%, being at the ground yesterday, Lloris's was silent after the second goal, he should have been tearing the squad a new rectal passage.
Exactly - difficult to exert any authority when culpable for a massive howler yourself though (not just on a one off occasion either)

That's another good thing about Pickford, he isn't afraid to give people a bollocking and appears to be very vocal

Pickford is a solid (plus) GK - no more, no less.

I haven´t watched every single minute he´s played over the last few years (and neither has 99,99% of the others in here, is my educated guess), but it does seem like he has removed the worst brainfarts from his game. But his handling is still so-so, and his field work is questionable at times. His movement and positioning is decent, but far from the very elite level (he has improved - but that doesn´t really say much, as it was very poor a few years ago). He´s a good shot stopper - but absolutely no better than Lloris in the latter´s prime - it´s not even on the same level (to suggest that it is is just laughable). His distribution is very good and probably the best part of his all over game. That, and that he´s HG. But as someone else posted earlier: the number 1 shirt should not be reserved for HG: we should seek to get the very best option there possible is. 2nd and 3rd goalies should be HG though.

I like that Pickford is vocal and "energetic" in his communication. But if you look at the very best goalkeepers in the world - he shouts and screams waaaaay more than any of them (or all of them combined). But, alas, when you have that defence in front of you - who wouldn´t?

If the Qataris sell PSG and invest in Spurs, the best investment the could bring with them would be Donnarumma ... (it´s crazy to think he´s still only 23!)

Goalkeeper still do tend to have a longer career than outfield players on the top level. But still I wouldn´t like us to get someone at 33-34 to replace 36yo Lloris. If we could find a "new" Lloris (mid twenties, reasonable price, underrated with huge potential), it would be fantastic!

Theoretically attainable goalies and their age:
Jan Oblak has already turned 30 this January.
World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez will be 31 in September.
Croatia´s Dominik Livakovic turned 28 a few days ago.
Milan´s Mike Maignan will be 28 in July.

HG goalkeepers:
David Raya will be 28 in September.
Pickford will be 29 in March this year.
Dean Henderson turns 26 in March.

My personal favourite is Henderson. Great shot stopper and still developing at 25.

So you want a robot, not a human. Literally made 4 errors leading to goals in the last 3 seasons I think it was. That’s literally as good as it gets as far as being reliable as a goalkeeper. I can remember Allison making several this season alone but he’s still the worlds best goalkeeper

If Henderson is attainable, he'd be my pick as well though.
