Arsene Wenger is advocating these be done away with.
:bs: the reason he whines about it is that players get injured during friendlies which explains why some of them tend to not give it so hard.
Wenger has got a whole season with with 50 or so games some of them against not so good teams, as say in the cup games, where he can afford to let second choice players on the pitch to check them out.
NT managers don't have that luxury, as a NT may have like 4-5 games per year (excluding Finals if they qualify) so friendlies have, are and will always be of importance for any NT. Managing NT is completely different type of animal, so Wenger's opinion has got no weight here. Instead he should speak out loud about the Eduardo case, and make sure things like it happen no longer. As, dare I say it, if Eduardo didn't get hurt then they might have won the game against Chelsea and had a better chance to win the title, or better chance in the CL. But he doesn't see that he sees the friendlies.
