I think this post was supposed to start a debate on which Spurs players have stagnated while at the club, and therefore which players need to be sold in the summer.

However, it has been written in such slap-dash and sloppy way, that all it has done is ferment discord between members.

I will endeavour to explain myself more clearly next time.

Prawn sandwhich anyone?

Wasn't the buzz around Lennon when he moved in, merely the excitement of the new? Same with Dawson, and Robbo. It takes time for the deeper flaws to sink into the collective consciousness, when the good things they add are so much more interesting to us all. Robbo always flapped a bit, but he made dozens of crucial saves. Lennon never really had a huge amount of end product. Dawson was always blood and thunder, that's why we loved him in the first place. Plus the complications of form, injuries and so on .. and higher standards or expectations now too?

For what it's worth, I think they all have improved, bar Robbo, overall. Lennon has clearly got work to do, but he has time to do it. Dawson, I don't know. Same old Dawson when he's playing with a superb partner. Not sure he's improving any more, but I don't think he's gone backwards.

You can see it all the time. Malbranque celebrated for his heart. He always had it. Just took people time to notice. Some even said we don't need to worry about left side of midfield. Now he's dross again, apparently, average.

All a bit ho hum, really

The Keane slating is getting really tiring, could you lay off it now? Please?

I really hope Lennon is given more time. You can teach and improve skills such as crossing but you can't teach pace, and he has it in abundance. His first season and then the WC he was superb, second season he struggled with injuries and this season he has been inconsistent

Quite.

If you had have taken a bit more time and effort in laying the article out in a coherent manner, they'd be a proper debate going on now, instead of people telling you how thick you are.

And you could have at least spelt 'sandwich' right.

Lennon has gone backwards during his time at Spurs.

Not quite what I was saying.

PLTuck said:
When Lennon first joined Spurs, he hung out wide right and stayed there, rarely did he track back and help out the RB. Now, he pretty regularly does his share of the 'dirty work', and so is not always in the attacking positions he was when he first joined. Therefore, overall, he has progressed at Spurs.

Try watching what players do when they DONT have the ball, and you may get a more balanced view of progression.

More like what I was trying to say. Technically Lennon is a far better player now than when he came. His first touch has improved immeasurably, he grafts a lot more and he tries different things like coming inside. I remember over his first season with us he improved a lot. He used to do extra training sessions 1 on 1 with Davids after everyone else finished to try to improve his game, and it worked.

I'm still convinced he is at his best being direct but I am even more convinced that Ramos knows exactly what he wants from Lennon and all the other players for that matter and we will see the best of them.

To a certain extent I think it's fair to say that Lennon has been sussed, as a youngster bursting on the scene everyone was taken by surprise then last season he had a few injuries and so wasn't judged as harshly, unlike this this season.
What we should bear in mind though is that this is all part of the development of young players, they eventually realise that they are in an arms race with defenders and adapt to become the finished article, it happened with Ryan Giggs I remember his bursting onto the scene and the lull before reaching his peak, same goes for Ronaldo two or three years ago, don't forget Aaron is still five years off his physical peak and his fastest speed.

I see PLP you are not willing to back up your comments about Keane. Even if you take this season compared to last, he has clearly improved all-round. Last season he was battling with Defoe for the second striker spot beside Berba, this time around he is one of the first names on the teamsheet and has seen off Defoe's challenge to such as an extent that he has left us.
He is set to score the most goals he ever has at Spurs and is neck and neck with Berba (clearly our most gifted player) on the scoring charts.
With regard to Lennon, I can (sort of) see where you are coming from with regards to his Spurs career but, you have to admit, his success in the first season was a lot more to do with expectations that ability. He was raw, he was thrown in at the deep end and, basically, no-one had ever heard of him so anything positive he achieved (and granted that was a lot) was down to the fact that he was a rookie. However, like many he's been affected by the topsy-turvy nature of our season and I would still expect him to make amends next term.
As for the others, I think you can take it for granted that if we don't mention them then we agree with you.

Leaving Keane out of this 'discussion' for a moment........

Most of the others that have been mentioned are not up to it.

Granted, a lot depends/will depend on the 'mix' of the team, but on their own, players like Lemon, Dawson, Jenas, Zokora, et al, just bring nothing to the party.

If there are 'better' * players out there, then we ought to be looking to bring them in - and that goes for every club, regardless of the individuals involved.

* - more tactically aware, more committed, higher personal skill level, integrate better etc, etc...........

Keane, on the other hand, has scored 20+ goals so far this season and I am struggling to see where else we would have got those from, with the current playing staff we have.
