Joseph S Blatter‏@SeppBlatter·Apr 16
Congratulations to @jeffreywebb for his re-election as @CONCACAF President and FIFA Vice-President! This shows the trust in his leadership.

Webb was re-elected unopposed at last month’s Concacaf congress, attended by Blatter. Also at that event, the confederation’s vice-president Captain Horace Burrell was re-elected unopposed. It meant that Burrell, banned for six months in the 2011 bribery scandal, kept his committee roles, including chair of Concacaf’s finance committee; chair of the legal committee overseeing compliance and integrity; and vice‑chair of the security and fair play committee, “supervising the conduct of everyone involved in football within the Concacaf region”.

This will surely hurt FIFA in the pocket, can't see too many of their sponsors being happy about this.

I won't hold my breath, but Blatter surely has to go. Even if there are no charges against him, all this corruption stuff happened on his watch.

This story ends with Blatt to jail. When it'll be that it eventually happens, who knows.

However, I just get the feeling his determination to hang on and spit in the face of a World that wants him punished just cannot end well for him.

Surely now the FBI are involved at least one of these delegates will crumble under pressure and lift the lid.

Get the popcorn out, this will be fun! :)
Looks like 4 of them have crumbled already.

Yep Qatar and definitely Russia are looking like a minefield for sponsors.

On a side not did anything come of the raids in Italy last year on tax evasion and money laundering?

You have to think those dragged to the U.S. will squeal when the FBI get their hands on them and a deal is put on the table. I'd love to hear the headline that an arrest warrant has been issued for Blatter. FIFA needs sorting out from top to bottom.

Why would they tell everyone first? Those shredders will be working hard. (although I guess it is very early over there).

Simon Johnson, chief operating officer for England's 2018 World Cup bid, describes today's events as "bombshell news".

"You can imagine the scene, the hotel bar where all the Fifa officials stay, the place where most of the action was going on during the bidding process and the idea of a number of officers wandering up to rooms and escorting Fifa officials out would have been a sight to see," he told the BBC. :ROFLMAO:

On Friday's Fifa presidential election, Johnson added: "I cannot imagine the congress will take place without some sort of statement or discussion about this.

"Quite how they can run as business as normal with six senior officials including current and future members of the executive committee being arrested is amazing to think, it cannot continue as normal."

It does say is being served. I would imagine that the search was well under way when they released the news.

So, to help you make sense of it all (because we're nice like that) here is, in a nutshell, what's happened:

  • US department of Justice says 14 defendants have been charged with "racketeering, wire fraud and money laundering conspiracies" over a 24-year period.
  • "The indictment alleges corruption that is rampant, systemic, and deep-rooted both abroad and here in the United States," says US attorney general Loretta Lynch.
  • Four individual defendants and two corporate defendants have pleaded guilty.
  • Fifa insists Friday's presidential election will go ahead as planned.
  • Fifa spokesman Walter De Gregorio: "The president (Sepp Blatter) is not involved, how can you say he has to step down? He is the president, if he is re-elected then he is the president for the next four years."
  • De Gregorio confirms the 2018 and 2022 World Cups will go ahead as planned in Russia and Qatar.
Interesting quotes from the US Attorney General.

And another quote from the US Dept of Justice:
"Let me be clear: this indictment is not the final chapter in our investigation."
Love it... just Kevin Keegan love it.
FIFA may say they won't have a revote on Qatar but their major sponsors may pressurise them otherwise.
Allah o Akbar.

Keep saying it, it's all corrupt (to varying/relative degrees).

If you think our hands our clean in this country, you're just wishing it so.

There are not that many countries that could hold it at short notice. We are one and are usually held as a reserve choice.

Is this the FBI rounding up Blatters minions to get dirt on him do you think? I have a good feeling about this and I bet Blatter is shitting bricks.
Don't count on it, he's more Teflon than Levy.

The guy's fucking Ra's Al Ghul.

Bet he's got a regeneration pool in his house; he's probably 300 years old.
