Huntelaar is not world class.

What's your definition of world class? Has played for some of the worlds best teams? Is a leading goalscorer in one of Europes best leagues? (Dzeko also did this if I recall), has a strong international goal scoring pedigree for one of the top 5 international sides in the world? Has a good goal scoring record in the champions league and europa league?

The guy scores goals everywhere he goes. People can say that holland and Germany don't count but I don't buy that. Klass is class (see what is did there!)

Also this, I'm sure that each time that we have been linked with him he has said something disparaging about us and how he wouldn't join us.

Considering our goals to chance ratio, it would seem our failures lie around not having a striker who can bury the ball at a consistent rate.

Sign him up.

If he would have had the chances Adebayor has had this season he would be on 20+ league goals by now.

No one has ever doubted Huntelaar's finishing ability.

The problems with are that he's slow, can't hold the ball up and has no alround game/link-up play. If you want a 1980s poacher then he's your man. But he's not a modern #9 equipped for the EPL (or Spain or Italy).

I've always thought Pav would absolutely rip it up in Germany too.

He knows where the goal is, but could be play a lead striker role in our side? Look at Dzeko, aside from 3 or 4 games, he's not adapted to England and struggles against tough defences. I don't know if Huntelaar has all the attributes required. He can't really hold the ball, he's just a tall finisher.

Dzeko is also an infinitely better player than Huntelaar.

If we're looking for forwards in Germany then I think Mario Gomez (35 in 38 this season for anyone who is bothered aout stats) is still the pick, though I'd have doubts about him too.

Mario Gomez is a poacher, just like Huntelaar (and Defoe).

None of City's forwards are ideal partners for Dzeko, although he needs to do more to adapt to their style of play.

In all fairness Dzeko has looked quality whenever he has a sustained run of games. Unfortunately for him with the competition he has at City, getting consecutive games in that side is a near impossibility for him.

He would absolutely tear it up if he was playing for us, just because he would play week in week out.

Oh, and Huntelaar has never made any inclination that he actually wants to sign for us, and I have a sneaking suspicion that he is on more wages than we are willing to pay. The two perfect signings for us have always been Benzema or Llorente, although I wouldn't be displeased if Spurs signed Berbatov and Damiao this summer.

Dzeko has been a flop. Not been impressed with him since he arrived, bar the game against us and we made it so easy for them that day.

88 - Spurs have had 88 attempts on goal in their last 4 games but have scored just 2 goals. Update. (via @EPLIndex)

So, can we get Klaas?

Strangely, I don't think we would create as many with him leading the line.

And we certainly wouldn't defend from the front.

With him instead of Ade today we probably would have lost 3-1 or something.

I agree. Dzeko looks like a damn good player to me. He just signed for the wrong club.

World class players have won major trophies and produced consistently against the top teams in world football.

Huntelaar is a top quality forward for sure and I wouldn't be opposed to us signing him. But he isn't world class.

What has he done really that proves him to be world class? Name a defining moment like a winning Champions League final goal, like a world cup moment or even a massive moment against an elite team?

Now i'm not saying we should only sign world class players mind, because i'm not sure we could attract world class players in the summer (and i;m sure Huntelaar would be playing for an elite team if he was world class).

However our best chance of getting world class players is to buy them young and devolping them into world class players. Something I think could be done with Leandro.
