What is a good defence?

Is it a team who just doesn't concede many goals? Or does it depend more on the attack scoring more goals than the defence concedes?

As I looked at my PES stats, I noticed that my goal scoring rating was at its max, but my defending was rated quite badly. I thought that was unfair, considering a very very high percentage of my games have been wins. As long as I scored more goals than I let in, doesn't that mean my defending is plenty good enough, as I still win games?

As long as we score more goals than the opposition does, I'm happy.

This doesn't really have anything to do with Tottenham. Though I do play as Tottenham most of the time.

To try and keep this from getting moved from Spurs Chat, doesn't having a good defence also mean that you score more goals than you concede? So to have a good defence, I think you have to be good at scoring goals.

Don't blame Kaboul. Blame our strikers.

WTF??? All I know is that on any free kicks or corners where i am normally at the edge of my seat waiting to concede, i was extremely relaxed and not worried at all...which is nice! If you look at the mistake Kaboul made that was really the only defensive mistake made his fault yes, but in all our defense was alright. Ok I think that may have been way off what flatters meant to write about but meh!

well dude the way i see it is. If the Defence in it's actions contributes to the attacking attributes (and sucess) of the team i.e CB 's bring the ball out or pushes into CM to make and extra body in support play or Full backs over lap and that contributes to scoring goals....then conceeding a few shouldn't be seen as detrimental when judging how good defence is. We all have a choice in what we prefer. I prefer to have an attractive team who take sensible risks going forward and accept they aren't going to break Chelsea's clean sheet record. I don't accept recklessness in those roles or over caution either.

The scum and utd's defensive record is very good becasue opposition teams are too shit scared to attack them becasue of there forward play so they sit back. we have to make them shit scared of us too... Pro evo is differnt becasue the computer doesn't know fear and the people you play on line don't really care about losing in the same way footballers, managers and fans do.

I dont think that is the sole answe though. There is more to it than just not letting in goals to make a good defence. Able to bring the ball forward, to break the play up rather than for them to shoot, meaning we can attack on the break and should hold on to the ball more. Also playing as a unit, covering each other ect..

Flatters, are you on about best form of defence is attack? surly you blame the midfeild as they have to get the ball to the strikers alot of the time, and also break up the play?

It is sad to say it, but a good defence is the way Arsenal are building.

Clichy - Gallas - Toure - Sagna

All are strong, atheletic players with pace. They are building it my way, and for me it is so sad to see them picking up the players I have recommended many years before they joined.

And they've all got something else in common, but I just can't put my finger on it...

All the top 4 CB pairings have experience, something we severley lack. Rio/Vidic Carragher/Hyppia Toure/Gallas & Carvalho/Terry. Whereas atm we have Dawson 23 and Kaboul 21, they are always going to make mistakes at this stage in their career, why a more experienced CB was not signed in the summer i don't know

Winning 4-3 is better than winning 1-0.

On an impartial game, yes. on a game where spurs are playing, definatly no. At the mo, i would take five 1-0 wins rather than five 4-3 wins for us no problem.
