I don't think the phrase "I'd take a draw" has ever been more meaningful. Just stay in the tie and hope we can pull through in the home leg.

I suppose the only consolation is that they're also pretty terrible at the moment.

I don't think we can play any system with a midfield 2 of Sarr and Skipp purely on grounds of lack of experience.

We also now have a problem that Porro and Persic are wingbacks but not full backs.

Although people laughed at it earlier, remember that Poch used to put Dier in midfield.

I'd go

Forster
Royal Romero Sanchez Davies (or Lengelet if he can play full back)
Dier
Sarr Skip
Kulu Kane Richarlinson

Longer term if Conte insists on 5 2 3 then at least Hojberg can add the experience.

What I expect:

Forster - Romero, Dier, Lenglet - Emerson, Sarr, Skipp, Perisic - Kulusevski, Kane, Son

Subs: Austin, Whiteman, Sanchez, Tanganga, Davies, Porro, White, Lucas, Richarlison, Danjuma, Devine, Mundle

Would like to see Richarlison getting a start though.

White out on loan so choose another junior!

My XI :

Forster
Romero Dier Lenglet
Emerson Skipp Sarr Davies
Danjuma Kane Richarlison

Resting/dropping Son & Kulu.

Emerson needed for Leao threat. I would rest Perisic & play Davies as LWB.

In our heart of hearts, we all know it'll be:

Forster
Romero Dier Davies
Emerson Skipp Sarr Perisic
Kulusevski Kane Son

Do we know whether Danjuma has the defensive capabilities for this?

A formation like this always looks pretty until the game kicks off.
I believe he has played wing back several times for different teams, one being the Holland national team. So I guess he can do it.

Dier and one of Skipp/Sarr in midfield for me. Romero, Davies and Lenglet at the back

I'd be tempted to try Lenglet in front of the CBs in that setup. He's a much better passer than Dier and also much calmer under pressure. I think Dier's days as a CM are well and truly behind him.

Hojbjerg will be back for the return leg right? Take the draw and go for the win at home.

Dier is shite in central midfield, poor mobility, slow turning, out of practice in the role too… I wouldn’t fancy that at all. We have to trust Sarr & Skipp for this one. Both have shown decent form in last month (Sarr v Palace & Arsenal, Skipp v Preston).

I think there is a strong argument for reverting to 4 at the back, with Emerson & Davies in the full-back slots, and adding Richarlison up top in a 4-2-3-1. But I agree it’s unlikely Conte does this, especially with only a 72-hour turnaround, so I expect the usual 3-4-3.

A CL knockout game and I really don’t know if I can be arsed to watch it.
Do watch it, you don't know when you'll get the chance again... coming from someone who had to wait over a decade to see us even in Europe it's still a dream tie
