A couple of thousand out of a population of 6 million in the city alone. Over 1400 (reported, not actual) murders per year in Rio de Janeiro. 42000 robberies of pedestrians a year. 14000 cars stolen.

It's not the safest city. Especially for an ugly ginger foreigner.
