I enjoy reading Tim's articles in The Independent and hearing what he has to say about Spurs.

Agreed. I also think he's been absolutely right about everything he's said about us since then.

The only thing I disagreed with him at the time was some of his lineups (I mean, who did agree with his CM of Eriksen and Holtby?), but it's obvious he put in a real effort, was extremely honest with the players and media, and his reflections since then have been absolutely spot on (namely about our weak mentality, poor forward passing from deep, and need to integrate more of our own youth).

I have a confession to make myself. I'll probably be lambasted for this.

If we don't get top four, I'd rather Arsenal do it than Southampton.

Arsenal getting it means retention of the status quo, however distasteful it is as of the moment, and one less elite power in our league for which to contend with for recruiting purposes and for fighting for those coveted four places. I think it would also be an unappreciative blow to Poch within a year after leaving them for us, and I want that man having as much confidence as possible. Him getting the upper hand on their visit to the Lane this past fall was rather crucial IMO. Almost as good of a win IMO as housing Chelsea.

Even if Southampton do get top four, which imo they won't , they still won't be able to compete with the rest of the top 6/7 in the transfer market. They won't pay the top wages. Arsenal missing out would be far more damaging as Sanchez and co might kick up a fuss.

They've shown they dont need to pay the wages. They have achieved this so far without all the superstars from last season.

While you're right about the current players, I think Arsenal could recover far more easily. Southampton meanwhile would dip right into the same pool of players we would be shooting for, and if they did have CL they would be the more desirable option.

So, since I said this:

Townsend has been blinkin' terrific. You're welcome everyone. Who shall we get to prove me wrong next?

If that's the way it works, mate, you should have written off five or six of 'the magnificent seven' months ago.

This is kind of the reason why I hope these "Koeman to Barca" rumours come true...

I know AVB is a shit manager. But I got to love him because he is a south European with 3 syllables to his name and talks like a mourhino wannabe

Getting into the CL does not make a team an "elite power". Everton achieved it once and have gone to achieve bugger all. Sadly, the same goes for Spurs at the moment.

Fazio is average and I wouldn't start him in the league unless we had to.

Dier already showed more potential and all round ability in 1 game than Fazio has in all of his matches for us.

I hate the stupid 'nicknames' for players such as Pendaldo, Nogoaldo, Adebarndoor, Hurrikane etc.. Yes we get it, you've thought of a not very funny name, please stop using it in every post.

I think this thread should be locked now as it has been spoiled by posters who are too thick or stupid to grasp its concept. It was a brilliant idea but it has been spoiled by those who feel the need to voice their opinion about what poster's write. even when the essence of the thread dictate that they should not. Read it, rate it if you must and move on to the next, not bloody hard is it?

If we were to lock threads which are "spoiled", SC would have been a dull, mile long, empty chasm.

'Dim Shitwood' was particularly puerile, and there was one poster who really did use it in every post.
