(^^^ in Croatian)

They claim that Tottenham have lodged a bid for Ante Rebic (19-year-old forward, RNK Split).

Last night a story broke that an unnamed Premiership club had come in with a bid. Today another source claimed it had come from Spurs.

The transfer fee reportedly would be around 6m euros (the 12m you see in the article would include his salary over 4-years).

He has become a very sought after player. Recently being linked with Milan, Bayern and previously Dortmund, Leverkusen, Parma, and a few other clubs.

He is tagged as "the new Boksic." Not the 'Boro one, but the Lazio/Juventus one.

Here's a comp:

I can expand more on the player later if you'd like. Have more to write about him, but don't have the time.

Just to add before I go. He plays as a striker and more predominantly as an outside forward in a 4-2-3-1 (on the left side).

Allowing bale to play more central

Any truth in this one then ryan? I love it when a name is plucked out of the blue like this, somehow more believable. A relatively unknown quantity is always exciting too.

That's a really big transfer fee for a player who: a) Isn't coming from either Dinamo Zagreb or Hajduk Split and b) Isn't already on the NT (he is part of the U21 set-up). This speaks volumes about his potential and the presence of other interested clubs/bidders.

Dinamo believed they could get him for less (in the past year or so), but his value really went up this past season. Dinamo recently, even before these latest links surfaced with Milan and Bayern, offered 2m euros + 50% of any future transfer. When you consider how well Dinamo has sold players, that could end being a decent amount. Parma are said to have offered 3m euros. Split have said they don't intend on selling for less than 5m.

People compare him to Boksic because of his combination of size, power, speed and technique.

Here is a very good assist from last week vs. Hajduk Split. Showcases some of his speed and technique:

He's been getting a lot of praise from opposing managers, players and media. Many claiming he's the best player in the league and should already be getting call-ups to the full NT. It's just a matter of time.

I will say that when I heard "unnamed Premiership club" last night, I immediately wondered if it could be Spurs. IF the reports are true, I'd commend Spurs and their scouts on this one. Could turn out to be a really good bit of business.

RNK Split's President just came out and said that there is no need to rush and that the priority is to first secure a place in Europe for next season (over the next 3 games). That everyone will be informed in due time about a potential Rebic transfer.

Well, he looks good, so I hope there's some truth in it.

I assume he plays wide because he's young, and will eventually play centrally with time

Interesting but i'm not sure myself. He doesn't look particularly quick, nor strong for his size and although his feet seem reasonably decent, are they that quick?

My question would be, is he worth 5m when we have players like McEvoy and Ceballos who could potentially step up in 12/18 months.

He's quick. Again, it's the combination of size, speed, power and technique. And he's not fully mature yet. In that clip I posted where he assisted on that goal, the CB he outran is actually quite fast.

It's the ability to run with the ball at decent speed and brush defenders off at the same time that separates him from most. Some are good running in open spaces. Some can ride challenges. He can do both. He's a handful. And he's a pretty persistent and determined player as well.

The defenders he faces on a weekly basis aren't of the quality he'll be going up against in the near future. That's a given. But he's shown that he's not an easy player to mark, even when he's the number one target for opposing defenses.

I can't really compare him with other players in the system/potential targets, but he could turn out to be a really astute signing.

My Mrs is from Croatia and is over there at the moment she said there press are pretty confident he is coming to us. I know the big Croatian teams had bids turned down for him but they were about €2m I believe

Looks a good prospect and worth the risk at the touted price. About time we took the risk on the relatively unknown youth and it comes off well

Again, the story broke last night, but it was "an unnamed Premiership club." RNK Split didn't want to reveal the club in question.

Some papers started speculating that it might be Manchester City, but then today some sources came out claiming it was in fact Tottenham.

Another paper, close(r) to the club didn't confirm that it was Spurs, but did say that Spurs had scouts present at the game vs. Hajduk, in which Rebic played very well.

Would be nice to see some evidence of scouting in our purchases.

Dempsey, Dembele, Lloris were all of a known quality.

What put me off is that several times in the video the ball appeared to get stuck inbetween his feet or the defender would get a partial touch and the ball would luckily stay in his feet.

Like you've said, defenders will be a lot more talented wherever he moves next, and for the 5m you quoted in the intial post, would worry me.

Don't get me wrong, he looks pretty damn talented. Just not the type of player I would personally take a risk on at the 5m you suggested.

This would be a really brilliant piece of scouting should he turn into a quality player. He's pretty unknown outside of Croatia, at least in my opinion.

I've mentioned that I'd love to see a "Proven and Unproven" striker brought in this season. A "Young and Old" if you wish to call it that.

But, Rebic would fill the mold of a young guy that could come in and be molded and brought along slowly.

McEvoy and Ceballos are small attacking mids.
This looks like a big centre forward that's being used wide as he's young and fast.

It's a no brainer imo

Yeah, I even tend to think that Harry Kane's future role is more of a Lampard than a true line leader. We really don't have a young lone striker type that is close to breaking through. Coulthirst/Coulibaly are still a couple seasons away most likely. And, I'm not sure if they will be relied upon to be a lone striker.

That's the thing, this would definitely be "a scout's signing." Not a player who is/was famed through the media. He didn't even have a youtube video until very recently.

The thing is not many of his games are televised. He doesn't play for a fashionable side. Not many clubs are willing to pay decent amounts for players who don't already play for Dinamo or Hajduk. That's why the natural progression is predominantly: perform well at "lesser" clubs, then get picked up by either Dinamo or Hajduk, and THEN get a transfer abroad. Some do get a move, but not for the transfer fees being quoted in this situation.

Again, Spurs aren't the only ones showing an interest or who have been attending the matches. But they are definitely among them. Do you trust your scouts? I guess that's a valid question.
