total rubbish, robbie is a class act and since he has added more goals to his game he has been vital. Him and Berba after Jan will be fantastic as Berba only plays after xmas as he did at leverkusen and for us last season.

Bent has had a big chance and I dont think he took it at all

I think what has happened with JD/Bent playing is we have looked to stretch the opposition more. Keane and berbs look to drop deep and get invovled in our build up, but the midfield rarely makes runs past them. We can end up being a bit slow in our build up, not taking advantage of our counter attacks. Becuase the midfield isnt getting past the strikers often enough they drop deeper to get space to get the ball, pushing the defence back and then when we lose possession (from a long desperate ball) we are immediately under pressure.

There are games where having two strikers that can create on their own is beneficial, like against the top teams away from home.

That's a myth. Last season he scored 10 goals before xmas and 13 after that. Given that he was out September due to his groin injury, it's clear that his ratio goals to games was pretty even before and after xmas. Another example: season 2004/05 at Bayer he scored 15 goals before xmas and 11 after that. I can easily predict that next autumn he will be world class, a true goal machine.

Dawson and Keane are so VASTLY overrated it is untrue. Keane would never had caused the problems Bent did today (an out of sorts Bent; lacking composure, confidence and goals).

Keane is great at home, great at penalties and great at flapping his arms, shouting, whilst chasing referees.

How many penalties has he scored this season?

As for Dawson. Slow, very slow, has the game reading skills of an 8 year old and his distribution resembles my grandmother's dog.

Slightly OT, but something to get your teeth into.

i know this thread is just a wind up by nic, but i do think there is something in here that should be noted

i agree with this quote 100%, Keane and Berabtov both drop deep leaving the opponance defenders able to step up congesting the play, with Defoe or Bent on the pitch we push them back giving our midfielders more space, IMO it should be one of Keane/Berabtov with Defoe/Bent, well thats what i think anyway

That might be true but, in my opinion the team haven't looked more threatening with Keane out of the side. In my opinion it is because we have looked more solid in midfield and at the back that we have won the last 2 games.

i do agree with that, but if the midfield is looking better now then one of Keane and berbatov no longer need to drop off to try and help out, we all know Keane can play up top and do it well, when he comes back into the team i would want to see him doing that instead of dropping off, was meant to say that in my other post, but just forgot  just think we need at least one forward pushing there back line back

Maybe the midfield looks better because they are being left to do their thang, while the strikers do what they do.

Anyone who has seen Keane at his best for us and ROI will know that if you tell him to play of the shoulder of the last man he will find the space. (Jol said that Keane is the best player for this at the club but, he felt he had to play him in different places due to weaknesses in the side)

Maybe Ramos will be brave and play Robbie where he will be most dangerous, right on the shoulder of the last man.

I think the return of Keane, King, Dawson and in time Bale will only make us stronger and more confident.

I'm not sure that he can, Keane needs to play in space.

He doesn't have the pace, strength or certainly bravery to play right up top effectively.

Keane is far more effective when dropped off and playing in space. As for the very front man he is the least effective of our 4 options.

i shall just put up a quote by nidge for the answer to this

I could find a hundred quotes that would counter that.

Keane clearly is better dropped off, he simply doesn't posses the tools to play as the top man in the premiership.

keane can and has shown the correct abilitys to play as a top man, yes he can drop off and play in the hole as well, but keane playing further up the pitch is alot better for the team

the point was made that Keane can play "up top"

Up top refers to being you target player, there is a responsibility to hold the ball up, challenge for it, run in behind people, challenge for high balls etc. All things that Keane is weak at.

If you want berbatov to play up top and Keane to play alongside him on the shoulder of the lsat defender that is different, however Keanes game is still not suited to this as he lacks the most vital ingredient for this role which is pace.

Keane is a drop off and space player who uses his cleverness to find the right areas to play in.

Keane plays better getting flick ons and playing on the shoulder of the last defender.
