Does anyone know what the latest is on the Archway fire? Have the local Old Bill said anything about suspects or the cause of the fire?

Nothing yet, so far as I'm aware, and as I posted on the previous page, the longer it goes without an announcement the less likely it is that the cause was something as crude as a petrol bomb. Either it was an accident, or something a lot more sophisticated than a Molotov cocktail. They must have done checking the CCTV by now, too.

Could it be that they've found sufficient evidence of arson, but don't want to announce it to the public until they start finding any leads? Not that they would announce the leads of course, but so as to prevent the individual(s) from having as much of a headstart to cover their tracks.

I wonder how the building site it backs on to is for CCTV - i imagine it's pretty well covered but with machinery and junk, it's not entirely unreasonable to think someone could approach from that direction, but that would require some effort and unless the hypothetical culprit has their own personal financial interests in Archway being gone, i don't see why anyone would go to them sort of lengths.

I genuinely think all the "evidence" (or lack of) that has become public points to nothing more sinister than a bizarrely convenient accident, though i would hope the owners would see the folly of rebuilding on that exact same site when they will, inevitably, have to sell up at some point in the near future.

There is a media blackout which is very strange.
It is usual for owners of fire damaged buildings to have something to say about the matter-this one-nothing.

That's certainly possible, but if the CCTV had caught a guy or a couple of guys chucking a petrol bomb through a first-floor window you'd have thought the cops would have put a description out by now.

That's the way I'd have gone in. There are big heaps of spoil right up against Archway's fence, and it would be easy to get to it undetected. That makes it less likely that it was a pissed-up Spurs fan (or fans) who decided to torch the place on the spur of the moment, though.

Very true. But are there cameras covering every angle of approach to that second floor?

Down Paxton Road, yes. Only a complete idiot would think he could get away undetected with an attack from the street side, which makes me think it was an accident, a carefully planned attack via the construction site, or an inside job. Check out Google Earth.

And final question, is there ability to approach the second floor from the construction side?

I think it will take insurers and loss adjusters long enough to deal with the claim, draw up a specification to repair the premises (the building is still standing), get it priced up and get the contractor on site that it will be the far side of the high court decision on the CPO. In the meantime, ASM's policy will presumably cover loss of profit from interrupted trade.

If the CPO decision goes against them, insurers will probably agree a cash indemnity settlement with them and the repairs will never be done. If they will their appeal, then they can repair their property and restart trading.

Well as a Brit who has lived in America for over 25 years, I would rather have CCTV cameras everywhere than guns. I don't give a flying fuck about any invasion of my privacy, I do nothing that I care about other people (the government) knowing about. I do care if some fucking nutter pulls a gun when I am in a bank, grocery store or when I am at a red light to steal the family car.

But more importantly, was it these tossers that ran on the pitch that started the fire?

Never understood why people say that CCTV is an invasion of privacy. They are not pointing in your bedroom they are only in public space or in private buildings. The recordings if digital are only kept for a month or 2 and only burned onto disk if there is an incident.
