The fire brigade investigators will have been through that wreckage with a fine-tooth comb. If there were any obvious signs of arson—i.e., any trace of an accelerant—they'd have found it within a few days, or so I've been told by someone who should know. Likewise, if the club's CCTV down Paxton had picked up anyone legging it from the scene, the cops would certainly have made it public by now. The longer there's no word, the more likely it looks as if it was an accident.

Im a bit dissapointed 57 you had me convinced it wasn't arson...

Lazy journalism, I can't find a single report online of the police confirming it was arson

Best I have found is them saying it was 'suspicious' on the day of the fire

"Spurs won a compulsory purchase order to force Archway Sheet Metalworks to sell up but the firm challenged the edict. The company's premises, which sit opposite the White Hart Lane stadium on Paxton Road, were badly damaged in a fire November, which the police have said was arson."

That's from dash.com (whatever dash.com is—dash to highly speculative conclusions, maybe?) and appears nowhere else. There's nothing in the local rags.

As I've posted before, I think the lack of any information from the police points to them building a case, plus of course it is a very sensitive situation so I'd hope they are handling it carefully.

A little birdy with a very good source today told me they had found petrol cans in the fire which would point towards arson

I'v had it from a Fire Brigade source that it was. Petrol all over the first floor, apparently. Josif mentioned the petrol cans day one, but it was never verified.

Josif Josif reckoned initially it was a firebomb, he was ranting and raving about firebombs according to witnesses

He also said that a fireman had told him they'd found a couple of petrol cans. That turns out to be true.

that article states that the club acquired the CPO against Archway. I was under the impression that it was secured on behalf of the Council / NDP. does anyone know with certainty which is correct?

pardon my ignorance and thanks in advance.

Businesses cannot issue CPO's unless they are leaseholders and that only off the landlord.

The article is wrong and you are right. The CPO was instigated by and is being pursued by Haringey Council. That's because the CPO is based on the need to regenerate Tottenham and that project is an initiative of local government and central government, not a private business. They just need the private business to make the regeneration scheme work - which is exactly what ASM are disputing.

I've never heard of a private party being able to obtain a Compulsory Purchase Order - or even trying. It's something that local councils and government departments do.
