I'm wondering if Schniederlin would become available especially with Rooney moving back into midfield? Could be worth a punt.

Perhaps they play together? Schneiderlin could do the more defensive/ugly stuff, then Rooney picks up the scraps & sets up attacks etc?

I think Schneiderlin will thrive under Jose tbh... would be very nice to see him back with Poch though.

What we need is to sign better players as subs and have the current subs competing with the new players for the bench

Why on earth would we want to focus on signings that compete with our substitutes?!

Surely a better policy would be to make signings that compete for the first eleven and players drop back to the bench from there.

In an ideal world that would be great. I was just putting a touch of realism into it

Yeah I think he will do really well under jose if given the opportunity, I just hope he doesn't and we can get him. I often wonder if he wishes he chose us.

Somewhere inside, he may well think that. However, he's only human & had the chance to sign for one of the very biggest clubs in the world. I doubt many would turn them down if a genuinely concrete offer is made for them. I'm sure he'd rather have regrets about his move, rather than a bunch of 'what ifs' , if he'd turned them down.

I think we'll buy Barkley this summer.

His career has stalled and he'll have seen what Poch has done with our young players.

Everton have said it would take a bid upwards of £40mil for John Stones, so I'd imagine you could add another £10mil onto that figure, at least, for Barkley.

Still think we'll buy Barkley?

I think our squad lacks quality in depth, and think we need another 4/5 players! That seems a lot, 2 strikers, a holding mid, attacking mid as well. Case could be made for another all round midfielder.

I like Mason and Carrol but you are considerably weakening the team when they come in for Dier or Dembele.

We need a creative player that can play in tight spaces and link the play as well as beat a man, rather hard to find.

Two strikers, this gives us the option to play with two up top more. Also say we start the season and one of them gets injured out for the season. We only bought one striker we are back to the same position as we are at just now.

Just seen schniderlin wasn't playing today. Seems like he's being wasted at UTD. He would definitely add something to our midfield.

I would still LOVE him at Spurs and think he would be perfect for us.

I think the problem with signing him will be the wages he's on now, otherwise I could easily see it. But we're not going to buy him and have him be our highest paid player.

Not at all... The way you improve is to sign players to compete with your starting 11.

If some of those that got us so close this season are suddenly replaced with better or more inform players then as a result they'll be our options from the bench.

If Mata gets bombed by Utd, then how would people feel about him as an option?

Not sure he shows the work rate that Poch demands, but an interesting player that could well be on the market this summer.

Not an option IMO, Mourinho bombed him out of Chelsea because of his lack of work rate going backwards so won't fit in with our youthful, energy driven philosophy.

p.s also he will be on silly money

I'd go for Schneiderlin (assuming he is available) and Berahino at this moment in time as they are decent players, are Prem experienced, not going to the Euros, and would be realistically priced now.
That would take care of what we actually 'need'.

Then we can spend the rest of the window looking at the more 'progressive' deals.

I wouldn't bother with MS unless Poch really wanted him and we could get him for somewhere between 10-15

I still quite like berahino and would prefer him to bats though I've not seen bats play and always sceptical, naturally.

Yes and No. I mean our first 11 were pretty unstoppable this season, it's our rotation squad players that let us down for the most part.

So whilst it is important to focus on signings that compete witht the first 11, let's not write off the fact that improving our subs is a bad thing.
