Hopefully during this summer's transfer window, we will make use of our Champions League status as a powerful tool to attract players which are able to improve our starting 11 and hence, our squad. I believe that it is not a necessity to break the bank, but if we have the opportunity to add competition for places, our club can only benefit.
In my opinion, the most obvious signing should be a striker who can either; come off the bench and act as an impact substitute, step up when Kane needs a rest, or if Harry endures a tough couple of matches and the gaffer feels he does not merit a place in the line up, or even if we feel the need to change our style of play every once in a while and shift to two strikers up front.
Another area I feel we must address is the central midfield position. It was quite clear that whenever the likes of Dembele or Alli were missing, our performances were just not at their optimum level, and I believe that we do not have the strength in depth in this position. Adding to this, I highly doubt that Dier can go through another season of playing most of our fixtures across all competitions and manage to maintain the same level of performances. That would increase the possibility of sustaining an injury, and he would undoubtedly, be physically drained. I think that two players in this position are required next season, with players like Mason,Winks,Carroll and Bentaleb possibly being sold or loaned out to make room for signings, and to provide us with some cash to spend.
One attribute which we are not as strong in as much as other teams, is pace. With Son and Clinton still to show us what they are capable of, I would give them another season to prove themselves. On the other hand, Chadli has been performing below expectations of late, and I would not be surprised if he was to leave this summer. I think it would be best for both player and club for him to leave, as it could lead to a better player to come in and improve us, and he could gain more game time somewhere else and maybe retain his place in the Belgian squad in the following years. It is also yet to be determined if Pritchard has what it takes to challenge for a spot in the squad. Hopefully we get to see him in pre-season, and then we can voice our opinion.
Other than that, I believe we have what we need to continue to pursue our objectives, and this young squad can only improve with experience and the guidance of Pochettino and his staff. I honestly cannot wait for next season and I hope that our last season at the Lane, will be an unforgettable one. In Poch I trust. COYS
