I really cannot imagine Barry joining Spurs and think you're being a little optimistic there Bubble! ;-)

I would have thought he'll either be haggling for a move to Liverpool if Villa don't qualify for the Champions League, or staying put with them having seen their potential after a pretty decent season.

Of course if we were to put an offer in and he looked at our squad he may see we once again have potential and arguably a stronger squad than Villa (although where Martin O'Neil is concerned that doesn't always mean much as he is terrific at getting the most out of whatever resources he has at his disposal).

I'd like him and think he'd make a good addition - he would complete with Jenas or Palacios in the middle and can also provide cover for Modric (of allow Modric to move into the centre and he can play left).

At a push he could also cover left back in an emergency.

It's much more likely that Barry will stay at Villa than go to another non-CL club. He'd go for about 8 million now because of his contract so he'd be a decent relatively inexpensive back-up option to Alonso, so I still think Rafa will go for him (whether he'd be willing to sit on the bench is another question though).

Bit worrying:

We really don't need more than 2 or 3 transfers this summer, I'm hoping Harry realizes this and Levy will keep an eye on him at least.

I'd agree with that.

For me it should be 3 - a Berbatov replacement (tall, goalscoring #9), a Carrick replacement (holding ballplaying DM) and a Lee replacement (solid LB backup).

Personally I think Dos Santos, Bale and O'Hara give us enough cover for Modric at LM.

However, traditionally Redknapp has had the highest turnover of players of any manager in the league, so I wont put any money on it being a quiet summer!

I've read 'broken dreams' too and athough it's very interesting it's a little bit sensationalist for my liking. Things were vastly different at West Ham were there was little money available and he had to wheel and deal. At Pompey he was constructing a side and did a very good job of it.

At Spurs he's inherited a good squad that's needed some tweaking. I think he knows this and he's also mellowed with age. Don't expect the same again...

At West Ham he was involved in 134 transfers in seven years as manager. That amounted to trading an entire team every season and eventually wore down the patience of the chairman Terry Brown.

Things did not change in his first spell at Portsmouth. Indeed, the chairman Milan Mandaric claimed that during two and a half years, 44 players were brought in by Redknapp, using 31 different agents.

did the same at bournemouth and left the club in a really bad state financially. Buying in and selling on and 'alledgedly' pocketing 10% of every deal.

Bit redundant now that he doesn't deal with the financial side of things. I don't think there's one player he hasn't brought in who we didn't need apart from maybe Chimbonda. I would expect 4 in so long as we don't lose any of our top players...

He inherited really poor squads at all his previous squads though. When he left both West Ham and Portsmouth they had significantly better squads then when he arrived. With spurs he will know that the quality is already there he just needs players to complement what we already have.

Spot on.

Harry Redknapp said:

"In the summer, I want to strengthen the squad a little bit in one or two areas," Redknapp said in the Evening Standard.

"There will be one or two lads who are not playing who will want to play.

"Those who are not in the team at the moment will not be happy.

"We are looking to bring one or two in."

Sounds good to me.
