I must say, I never knew that joey preferred Mido ahead of Kanoute. Love Joey's posts on the whole, but that ranks up with those who gave up on Lennon while hailing Bentley as the chosen on, wrote off Bale, then Ekotto, then Bale, then Ekotto, and Dawson a few times in between, and genuinely believed that Chris Perry was a top class partner for Sulzeer Jeremiah.

I am innocent of all but this one:eek:mg::eek:mg::eek:mg:

Hey, we didn't know he was gonna go away one summer and evolve an amazing ability to cross:oops::oops::oops:

As for the rest, I was something of a voice in the wilderness on the value of BAE, and on the plain silliness of writing the burgeoning talent of Bale(y) off:hump::hump::hump:

Dawson is still 3rd choice centre-half quality for a team aspiring for CL, IMHO:-|:-|:-|

I don't understand the theory of playing a weakened team. It hardly ever works in the cups, and we proved it doesnt work against the worst of the prem either.

If you aren't in the lead, you inevitably have to bring on some of the players you wanted to rest. Who then have to bust a gut to try and salvage the game. So your players are still tired, and you risk losing the game.

Play your best team from the start, if you take a comfortable lead, then fine, take off 2 or 3 players you want to protect.

If you don't think you can take a comfortable lead with your best 11 against a side like Wolves, then you sure as hell shouldn't play a weaker team from the start.

It does my head in. Harry showed he cares more about the FA cup last night.

That team last night should have beaten Wolves. Simple as that. But they didn't want it last night. I have no problems with the changes last night. He played experienced Premier League quality players. It's not like he put the youth team out.

The players failed him again last night. They clearly dont want 4th spot enough. Gutless.

Agreed. Too often this team has been beaten by a group of players who are far inferior in terms of ability but simply want it more and that just isn't acceptable when we're supposedly chasing for the Champions League.

This thread is about Harry's tactics, but at the moment I don't think the tactics are the major problem. But Harry's main facet is supposed to be his man-management skills. He really needs to put them to good use now or our season may start to slide away drastically.

Was last nights eleven better than wolves on paper? Yes.

But they consisted of Jenas, Kaboul and Eidur, two of which who were making their debuts. And JJ has started, what, 4 games this season?

I don't see the logic in putting out a side that is just better than the opposition. Like last night showed, if the players dont click, and the opposition play very well, our advantage is neutralised, and then our chances are at best 50/50.

If we'd played our best 11 available, our odds of winning would have been above 50/50, even if we didnt play brilliantly.

We didnt play the percentages. I'm not blaming Harry specifically, but the whole culture of playing weak teams in the hope they scrape wins against weak opposition doesn't work in the long run.

What have we actually gained from last night? Modric, Crouch and Wilson weren't rested in the end anyway. And we still lost! Why not play them from the start, and take them off? They won't be anymore tired and we would probably have got something out of the game.

I just fail to understand why Harry picked Bently when Crouch isn't in the side. His game is all about his crossing ability, which IMHO has been woeful in the last two games, but who was he supposed to cross to with Eidur and Defoe in the side ?

With Bale in the side we have a decent crosser of the ball - why would we need two plays with no Crouchy? He should have played Kranky out there as he did when lennon was first out.

If that was Our Plan B then I hate to think what Plan C is - probably play Plan A. Teams have sussed us out. We can't play through a 5 man midfield and when we go long they can leave crouch and put two on Defoe !

There were sustain periods against Wolves when Dawson was in possession and guess what! the ball went long to Crouch...hum dumb!

Our problem seems to be a combination of goals from other areas, intelligence, guts, pace, as without Lennon we don't have many players capable of running with the ball (Bale apart). If only we had similar pace to Man United we'd be some team -the best passage of counter attacking ball I've seen in years was Rooney's goal against Arsenal, the pace desire and strength was electric.

How much is Rooney?

I agree.

Even when Modric, Palacios and Crouch came on it made little difference. I was happy with that team bar Kaboul.

Sustained periods? he was only on for 25 minutes and by that time we'd spent over an hour trying to pass through Wolves and gotten nowhere.

Didn't this game just prove that we can't play through teams without Lennon(Plan A)? We had to bring on Crouch(Plan B) and start hoofing it to cause them any real problems and even that didn't work.

We are one dimensional without Lennon and the quicker we find another way to play the more successful are run in will be.

That makes it OK then to just start knocking it long? how come we couldn't pass around Wolves instead of through, like how they did with there winning goal. How comes Arry did not try to much up our midfield with theirs and let our footballing skill be triumphant, why does it also have to be 442 with Spurs (big man little man)

why did he play him? The only reason for the yesterday team I would think was to keep the key players rested for the FA cup game. Harry should have never let Hutton go, he with his attacking mindset and abilities was better off to play with Bentley than Charlie is, who on the other hand fits better with Lennon. Now Kaboul gets the bashing as he had to play off position on his debut after being being back with the team for about a week or so.

There are three basic lines in any team, and 'arry managed to change each (?????) : Kaboul (?) in defense (pundits were saying from his side WW were creating problems in first half, and that is the truth), Jenas and Hudd together and no WP (???) in the middle, Kranjcar for Modric (on difficult pitch where Niko's lack of pace, as Hudd's, becomes clearly visible -so you have Hudd, Niko and Bentely in midifield on difficult pitch - WTF?) and finally we have Gudjohnsen, who looked as slow as anybody on the pitch and hasn't really played for months, for Crouch ??

When I saw team sheet, I was shocked. I still am. WTF was that?

Didn't this use to happen to Portsmouth a lot? They would start off strong then fade out as the season went on, only to pull it back towards the end of the season.

The team Harry put out last night should have been good enough to win.

Any team we put out from our first team squad, providing we play them in there correct positions, should be good enough to beat Wolves. Fact is the players did not seem "up" for the game. Even when we went one down the lack of urgency was shocking. Who's job is it to motivate the team......

Only Bale comes out of that game with any credit, that boy is gonna be some player!!!
