Who would you rather have playing off Berbatov, ostrov? Arshavin or Keane?

The thing I like about Keane is that he is the type of player who would meet such a challange head on rather then complaining and seeking a move.

He did this wonderfully with Defoe, when during the Kanoute/Defoe years it looked (to me at least) like Defoe was the better player and Keane would never be first choice again.

He did however knuckle down and constantly put in god performances and scored goals as and when he got the chance, completely raised his game and become a better player all round until he forced his way back into the team.

So with this in mind I would have no problem with the club signing Arshavin and replacing Keane as Keane would no doubt try to raise his game again (wheter or not this would be a level to high) and we as a club would benefit from the improved quality and competition (plus Arshaven could cover the likes of Dos Santos and Modric too)

As stated before though, it is unlikely that we have an endless pit of money and we do have more pressing matters to address. So I would expect a keeper and a Defencive/strong midfielder to be aquired before any potential move for Arshavin would be considered (it may well have been an either or situation with Modric)

I'd snap him up in a second if he wants to come to us. Zhirkov looks a player too doesn't he?

England never deserved to be there from what i've seen of Russia and Croatia so far.

BTW, prepare for a Mexican invasion—that apparently happened on Bolton boards when Borgetti signed for them.

I'd go along with that

Russia tore the Swedes a new one last night and thus far Croatia have been the best team in the tournement (if you conviently forget the rampant Dutch)

England, forgive me, need to change a school of thought in relation to football. Forget about crosses, learn how to play to foot. Combination football, neat passing, one-two is not enough anymore. One-two- three- four more appropriate.

Agree 100%

One of the main reasons England were so poor in the 06 WC was beacause of the desparate 'Beckham-to-Crouch' mentality

Excellent! That's what I want to see from England. Play to foot, extremely quick, combination football.

Wasn't it around that time that there was alot of talk of Keane moving on? Contract running down and that the club had to activate another 1 or 2 years on his contract?

The rest is history, back in as prity much first choice, and scored alot of goals.

I realy cant see him staying if he is to start on the bench more than the pitch.

Zhirkov looked handy down the left as well, but cant see ether of them coming to us.

England need a massive change right from grass roots football imo, we could go on all day about the problems in our national game. But I agree with you - most of the England squad have played in a CL final now, they aren't bad players, just for some reason, when they come together and play for England they produce such utter dross! The long ball mentality has been with us for years and it drives me mad! It's been along time since I enjoyed watching England.

Its not gonna happen unfortunatly, Im not an England supporter 'cos England is the most boring team to watch. England for me will basically colllapse if the current team tries to play a different way then the English way (boot it up the field). But if they can find the middle ground I am more then happy

Well, if you could change at your grass roots, as above fellow said it, England can be different kettle of fish. You had players like Gazza, for example , who could play short and be lethal:wink:

ahh but he played for us !!

We are famous for are short passing and push and run! unlike the rest of England!! Anyway the prob. is not the grassroots as of such (their are plenty of skillfull players in grassroots football) however its clubs only passing the strong, phisical types and rejecting all the small skillfull types thats the big prob. I would know. It will take a complete rethink of english football and we will only start to see the effects in 15-20 years time

I know. Why do you think I support Spurs? Gazza performance at Italy-90. Before that it was Ardiles&Villa.
Do you remember them?
I watched WC-78 in the jungles of Abhasia. Terrible picture it was, black&white. But I could see brilliant moves, orchestrated by Ozzie:wink:

Anybody think that the second England goal against the USA in the recent friendly was a good team goal? It was a neat one touch passing move which started from defence.

Capello stated that the technical ability in the England squad is better than he expected , i think we can be capable of good football i think. I dont know if Capello was known for managing attractive attacking sides in the past, but i think he can take england in a positive direction and give us more to our game than just long ball tactics.

It will take time ofcourse lol.

Surely after that statement we must go for him? As you say Joey, players like that don't come around often.

BUT as we don't desperately need a player in his position I would not pursue him if he will be demanding crazy wages. We don't need to break the wage structure to bring him in when we have already signed Modric and Gio this summer.

But he's a special player. I genuinley think if we got him and Bentley, then we could be even have an outside chance of a crack at the title (obvioulsy depending on how many games we get out of King and Woddy together). He really is that good. With him Modric and Bentley playing behind Berbatov, we'd be close to unplayable. He makes the right decision more than any other forward in Europe and works as hard as Rooney or Tevez. If we played a 4231 then Zokora and JJ would be fine as the 2 DMs. If Carsely and Neville can do it so effectivley for Everton, then JJ and Zokora can do it for us. JJ struggles as a box to box players as he spreads himself too thin Zokora struggles in the holding role, but essentially in this formation, they'd both be sharing a far more limited role that either are currently doing individually. We'd be definsively solid and offensively brilliant.
