We have been playing 4231 all pre season except Swindon, He played CAM in 4231 in every game except the ones mentioned, i can assure you of that, it''s only natural that a left footer in CAM like Bale who want's to shoot drifts to the right hand side of CAM so he gives himself more space to knock it left before shooting.
Against colchester we lined
Spurs team Vs Colchester: Friedel; Walker, Dawson, Vertonghen, Rose; Huddlestone, Sigurdsson, Carroll; Townsend, Falque, Adebayor.
Second half team - Lloris; Naughton, Caulker, Dawson, Assou-Ekotto; Carroll, Huddlestone, Parker; Townsend, Defoe, Kane.
Both look like 433 and everyone at the game said it was 433

This is against Sunderland
00 - We line-up 4-3-3 with Dempsey on the left, Lennon on the right, Ade central.

This against south china
Our line-up - Lloris; Walker, Caulker, Dawson, Rose; Dembele, Parker, Sigurdsson; Lennon, Defoe, Dempsey. #THFC#BAT2013

I never saw Colchester but i watched the other two and sorry but if you watched those games and you think that was 433 then you don't know what 433 is. Just because the team sheet is listed a certain way doesn't mean we played that way. Go watch the games back, even just for five minutes, i 10000000% guarantee you we didn't play 433 in those games.

Also according to that Sunderland line up, Bale was then central midfield if Dempsey was left and Lennon right? Bale was CAM, it was 4231.

Bale didnt playo_O

As for 433 and 4231 there isnt that much difference it depends on how high the wingers are. Like Barca play 433 but on paper it pretty much is a 4231

Also AVB has said according to one poster in a interview we are playing 433 and it was his plan to slowly make the transition

I assumed you mean't Sunderland at the end of the season, even so, it wasn't 433 in the first game in Hong Kong, Sigurdsson played wide and rotated with Dempsey between CAM/LW throughout the game, it was 4231.

The naivety of some of you guys really gets my goat at times.

Redknapp, Jol used to play a full strength side sprinkled with youth every pre-season game and guess what? We burnt out in the final third of the season EVERY year.

Meaningless friendlies are just a run out, Monaco were under a bit more pressure to showcase their new squad to the fans with the money they've spent.

As for complaining wingers aren't 'getting down the line and beating their fullback' or 'Townsend needs to play on the left, Lennon on the right' - fuck me, is it still 1998? Get with the times.

there may be some truth in this and you're the only person in 50+ pages of this match thread to point that out. interesting. only time will tell if you're right and maybe we're taking a different approach this year to fix the issue. fingers crossed eh.

Bollocks, didn't realise it was on.

I don't give a shit about the result and looks like we put out a pretty mediocre team, but how did the younger players do ? Was Stewart played at RB ? seems daft ?

Next weeks game is on itv4 also, just so you have a heads up.

We were poor, poor defensively as expected by the line up and as piss poor and unimaginative going forward as last season

Unfortunately, I think unless we go out and buy one or two intelligent/crafty creative types we will continue to struggle creatively, regardless of who our No.9 is.

The single biggest issue going forward is whether AVB is willing to just throw Paulinho, Soldado, and whoever else is brought in, straight into the starting line-up. History says he likes to take his time to embed new signings and players coming back from injury. Van der Vaart, Adebayor and Lloris all sat on the bench during the first few games of the season last year, and our point total suffered, in my opinion (2 points out of 8 from Newcastle, West Brom and Norwich).

I'm not so much worried about Crystal Palace, but Swansea are a good side. Bony and Michu will give us a tough time at the back, and we will need serious firepower up front to beat them. Of course, Arsenal are the following week.

Should we just assume we won't see our strongest side until after the international break, like last season? Soldado also could be called up to travel to Ecuador a few days before the Palace game, so who knows if we'll just throw him out there to lead the line.

If Bale goes, how quickly will AVB embed someone like Lamela or Coentrao? Will they have to do what Lloris did and slowly win the position over the course of a month or two?

It's all a worry at the moment.

Just seen the goals on 101. For a young team and with fryers at the back you would expect to concede chances, but lloris had a shocker for me. 3 of the those goals were saveable. From the looks of things it looked like we didn't create too much ourselves though.

another season of slow stagnant unimaginative football about to be served up? without the 90' screamers from gareth to save our asses though

we've bought a world class striker yet unless we bring in a few players capable of picking up their head and providing him with service, i cant see him faring much better than ade and defoe did last season. Paulinho and chadli arent the answer to that either and youve got to ask questions over AVB and management why this isn't being addressed when its been evident since the beginning of last season. It seems andre is obsessed with fielding a team of 6ft brutes without any footballing intelligence. Who do we have that can chip a ball over a defence? send a winger into space with a calculated through ball? where are our triangles? everyone stands around like statues waiting for something to happen.

This is not knee jerking, ive been saying this for a year and we only seem to be losing more players with any intelligence creativity and passing range.
