I like that Mason showed some nasty in the incident, but Lamela deserves some credit too. Benteke shoves him in the back, and unlike some of our lot, instead of whining to the ref about it he goes straight back in and shoves Benteke back and helps wins the ball back and this is what started Benteke getting wound up and he kicks out at Lamela.

This is how I see it long term.

Up front.

Kane And Soldado

Behind.

Townsend. Erikssen. Lamela

I Would play Townsend on the left. He is a left sided player very predominantly. Fuck cutting in. It constricts the width. Erikssen in the middle, he is both footed like hoddle, lamela on the right.

Balance.

I have no problem with them switching during a game. That is modern. Just keep the balance.

Simple.

Edit. By keeping Townsend left it stops his cutting in and shooting on sight.

Who's the player called "Behind" that you have playing in the hole?

It took a bit of nastiness and a red card but finally this season we had some players step up and look like they cared.

Mason
Kane
Soldado
Lamela
Chadli

They showed a bit of grit and a bit of anger and some will to win or at least battle and 'look up for it'. I'm not commenting on their performance but their effort and demeanour. It was good to see. Need to see Capoue, Ade etc get that now.

How can you forget Lloris!!! You do know he is the BOSS!

I thought that both Lamela and Townsend released the ball more quickly against Villa.
Townsend didn't take on silly shots and Lamela laid the ball off several times.
The flaws in their games were under control yesterday.
Coaching or revelation in a mystical dream involving burning bushes I know not.

To be honest Benteke was fucking angry all game, constantly moaning, arguing and frowning. It makes it no surprise that he lost his cool and got sent off, whether he was 'provoked' or not.

I missed the game live but watched it last night not knowing the score but knowing that we'd won. It's interesting to see all the comments about how poor we were when in fact we were the better team from start to finish. If we'd have taken our chances like we should have we'd have won 4 or 5 - 1. They had 1 shot on target all game and that was pretty much against the run of play.

Must say, it was nice watching a game when we're losing with 6 minutes to go and knowing that we're going to turn it around and win it in dramatic fashion.

Ill mannered game, which needed a sending off and a deflected free-kick for us to win. But its been a while since we showed that much anger and sheer bloody mindedness to win a game from behind, so at least its possible for us to win ugly if we have to. Not a fan of the imaginary card waving at all, and haranguing the ref... but very impressed with way Kaboul just stood in front of everyone, Spurs and Villa players alike, and shooed them off with his mere presence. He may be a shaky CB, but that's why he's a captain.

Ugly but strangely encouraging. Looking forward to seeing how we set up against Stoke next week.

I'm still laughing (as others have mentioned) at 'The Glare'. You know, that close up of Levy's face when we were 1 down.
If I was Poch, I'd keep my head down for a while, and avoid his phone calls. . .

Agree completely.

I appreciate it wasn't in the way of how things should be done, but all the top teams have that 'nastier' side to them, to get the job done, win above all else, even if it means trying to be a bit naughty.

Benteke kicked out at Lamela which arguably could have been a red on it's own, but seems it was missed - that was what Mason was having a go about, Capoue getting involved, soldado shoving Benteke - was great to see some of our players getting involved and looking out for each other. Afterwards, we played with some fricking passion, so maybe this could actually be a turning point.

For me, it was certainly the main positive about yesterday, getting fired up over something and using that passion to go on to win, typically we'd get the equaliser and then sit back taking the draw.

And I liked Soldado standing up for his team mates too...

I didn't like the card waving thing he did to the ref though, I think that's pretty poor, but then Kane came busting in, told him to stop, then went and got involved with Benteke. It was good to see a bit of spunk from all involved.

I didn't get to watch the game yesterday, so just watched the highlights this morning. Tell you what, that was a cracking finish from Chadli, great technique.

Just reading a few match reports I can't remember seeing such a negative reaction to a win!

I think it's because we got out of jail. Red card and deflected free kick. We got lucky. But generally, our fans are expecting too much, too soon. Most teams wouldn't have come back, I think we all know, normally we wouldn't.either.

This guy isn't complaining though.
