We signed Romero in the Nuno summer. This idea that top players won’t come to us unless we have an elite manager and CL football is nonsense.

The premier league alone is a massive draw. Even mid table clubs can afford to pay huge wages.
My son and I were talking yesterday, about how many decent players are getting relegated this season.
As you say, the Premier League in itself is a big draw. With our location and facilities taken into consideration as well, one blip year isn't going to put too many off us.

(Of course, we need to get the managerial issues sorted first though).

Most players will go to where they get the best offer and that depends on what is important to the individual.

We can offer Laporte first team football at a Prem club and probably match his current, reported, £120k a week salary.

So unless a big club comes in offering him first team football, we have a chance.

Surely arsenal will be interested

Maybe Newcastle too. My guess is a good club will come in for him.
Apparently Newcastle are after a RCB that can play alongside Botman. Arsenal want Cancelo so I doubt City sell them 2 players again after they almost beat them to the title. Barca are getting Inigo Martinez, Juve interested in Pau Torres, PSG want Hernandez and Skriniar supposedly. So that leaves us and Bayern (if Hernandez leaves) out of the bigger teams.

Thats all based upon reports and rumours though and the top teams stockpile talent so who knows.

We should 100% be targeting Laporte and Pavard (1 year left), both class, both have experience and in prime. Surely other clubs will be circling but worth a shot on either of them IMO, esp. that a number of clubs seemingly have their CBs lined-up

Anyone think it’s gone very quiet on Laporte and there’s been a steady buzz for Max Kilman? If you’ve noticed, everybody were linked with in the last week has been homegrown.

I think with how we are currently placed with no European football if we signed say Kilman and N’dicka as our new CB’s I’d be very happy with that personally

Pavard would have 0 intention to join our mess that is not qualified for Europe. Pretty sure he would aim higher.

Linked with Barcelona although they have financial constraints and are still trying for Messi. Soon to announce inigo Martinez too. Real would be possible as they need to upgrade on carvajal
In the PL youd only really suggest Man Utd as Liverpool chelsea and city are already stacked and arsenal have Saliba and white. Newcastle may get involved as he’d be an upgrade on schar.
But we have a chance… if we stump up the serious cash

I am very much sure he rather stays at Bayern then. Pavard has quite a big ego demanding to play in a certain position (CB) as he is very convinced of himself. He is a CL and World Cup winner in his prime who would demand an unreasonable high Signing Fee and huge wages (that he already is on at Bayern). No way he sees himself at a club outside Europe competitions who just starts to rebuild. City never cared if they are stacked, never rule out Paris or another big gun that has CL footy.

Wolves fans seem to hope Kilman is no more than a back up at best next season. Form has hit the toilet. My thoughts on it is that he's only good for a back 3 and that we shouldn't be after him any more.

I agree that psg ticks a lot of boxes, and staying at Bayern is also a strong possibility. Just pointing out that their isn’t a huge amount of PL competition

I know the general consensus is that this is improbable ... but I suppose that would be largely contingent on how much we'd be willing to offer in terms of wages. All of this 'wants to play CL' stuff, I don't think is the be all, end all for players. We've seen many big names go to teams in PL who aren't in the CL. 'Cos money talks.

In short: I think he is gettable. But, Daniel will do Daniel things, making the money part an insurmountable stumbling block, sadly.

It’s possible. It’s not a priority position but equally one thing the club can’t keep doing is reporting such huge profits and simultaneously claiming there isn’t money available for investing in the squad
