The issue is Laporte is not good enough to play rhat style at City. Why do you think he would be for us?
City are treble winners… best team in the world… we are just trying to get into champions league. He was part of multiple league winning sides and cup winning ones so can’t be that bad

We've got people losing their shit over the prospect of Dier starting a game for us this season and you are questioning if Laporte would be good enough for us....... I think the overwhelming verdict would be yes, yes he would be good enough for us.

Our setup will be closer to theirs in 21/22 as far as I understand it, where he played 33/38 games in the league, rather than their current one. In their current setup with Stones stepping forward and FBs who shift in horizontally rather than diagonally he's only really cover for Dias, and he's too good to be doing that.

And it's the experience and calmness he'd bring that i think we are crying out for. We've got big big players/characters either leaving or about to leave, or being pushed down the pecking order (Lloris, Kane, PEH, Dier, Davies) i think we are going to needing a few more leaders, albeit Son will do his thing and i do think Bisouma will step up.

A lot of players would be an improvement on our current CBs bar Romero. If Laporte is available for a reasonable fee, then I would probably take him but I am not sold on him being the final answer as I think Pep with with CBs with more pace for a reason.

Last year our team was slow all across the pitch with maybe the exception of Son when healthy and Emerson. Pace is not the only attribute we need, but PL requires pace across multiple positions to be able to succeed. Romero is not the quickest CB especially when having to recover from being out of position so I am hoping we have pace to cover for him in those cases. If Laporte can do that due to his pace/reading of the game, then all for it but I do not remember him having that in his tool bag. Then again my memory could be wrong.

29-yo Defender on a rebuilding team? No thanks.
At first we need a reliable defender, no matter the age. He can easily play at a high level for at least 3-4 years. And I prefer that to a talent that will get thrown into our defensive mess and will be questioned because he can not solve the issues alone...

Speak for yourself. I think we should aim far higher.

If he could play at a high level for 3-4 years - Man City would not be selling.

Maybe he can play at a Doesn't Suck level for 3-4 years, but I think we can do better for the money.
I am not able to judge what went wrong for him. If he is at doesn'T such level like Kulu or even more Bentancur I'd be fine.

But let's wait if there is even more to the rumour.

if we sign Laporte and Tapsoba, even if too late, it will go a long way to redeeming what has been farcical to date

edit - sorry for bump @Oscar22 but nowhere else to talk about Laporte other than in his thread
