When BAE is back in action, do you think we should have both of them operating on the left hand side?

Ekotto LB, Bale LW. Both very attacking and can cover each other if need be

As I said in another thread, when we are away to the big boys I can see them on the left in a 4-5-1. Bale has blistering pace and can take people on, which makes him an offensive threat (especially on the counter) while also fofering defensive cover for Benny, and being more than capable to switch positions.

the fact of the matter is LW is now our best position...I don't see this being tried out

Bale is important for home games, BAE for away games. I don't like chaging their positions too much to keep them in form and improve their performances even more if they concerate in one position.

what i really would like to say, Bale, Lennon, Niki & Modric, all in the same team in 4-5-1 system. I think it would be really top four starting XI.

BAE is good BALE is better; the extra letter makes the difference.
Bale is still young so maybe we need to go slowly with him.
I wouldn't pick them both on the left wing unless we had an injury crisis.

I think having BAE as LB and Bale as LW would be good. Both players have to work the whole wing as left backs, perhaps if we wanted a more defensive line-up we could have BAE sitting back and Bale up and down the wing. It'd be a shame to drop Bale just because he's considered a LB too

Did any of you watch Modric on the left tonight? He was fantastic and should be penciled in that position unless injuried or suspended.

Bale and BAE can fight it out for the left back spot, there is no problem having competition for places.

The only thing I think is a must is if Lennon is not playing then Bale should play to provide width which BAE doesn't do as well. If Lennon is playing I don't care which one of BAE or Bale plays, they are both solid players and have earned the right to play some quality minutes.

modders shud be played on the left. Bale can maybe comon as an impact sub in any position in the midfield or forward

Wow, this must be the first time ever we've had the problem of too many good leftbacks and LM's! I think both Ekotto and Bale are great players, and both are improving as well. BAE has performed well over a long period, while Bale has performed extremly well for a few games. Bale got a bigger potenial IMO, his a better athlete and is more of a threat going forward then BAE. Then again, BAE is great.

If the situation ever will be Lennon is injured, BAE and Bale fit, I would put Bale left, Mod right, coz we need a pacey winger with the ability to go past a man imo.

this is a good idea as bale is one of the few players in the squad with the attriibutes (height , pace, tackling) and potential to develop into a highly effective utility player

but then again if he keeps improving defensively im not sure ekotto will find it easy to get back in the team

the best scenario would be if he forced ekotto to up his game and start attacking at will when he got a game/minutes

BAE has been fantastic all season, Bale has had 3 or 4 good performances.

I would still prefer BAE against any decent opposition, but when we're at home against weak sides Bale can play

.........the penny drops :) as per the 'team for Fulham' and match threads

Modric was excellent on the left but he's excellent almost anywhere across the middle. Bale is more the out and out left winger who can skin his opponent for 90 mins, get to the byline and whip wicked crosses in. And he can surge back to help out when needed

Nice dilemma to have.

Hudd and Wilson are our rock in the middle so if BAE back but Lennon still out would suggest Modric on the right (don't tell me about cutting in and being on his left - if that was all he could do then defenders would have him).

When Lennon and BAE are back then I'd be tempted to play Modric just forward of the midfield two in a 4-4-1-1 (I know Ramos played him there but he was new to the prem and besides the whole team was crap)

....but this is all conjecture as we rarely have the full compliment available at the same time anyway

People used to say that about Lennon (well not as a striker but neither should Bale).

I used to remind them that when he only came on for 20 mins the fullback was able to scythe him down and not worry too much about being on a yellow. It happened constantly. Play him from the start and the fullback has to worry about playing almost a whole match on a yellow.

Don't know what Bale has to do. Good shout for MOM again last night - though there were several candidates

Its great having 2 different left backs. In games against more attack minded opposition, we should play Ekotto. In games where we're expecting to dominate and the opposition get players behind the ball, we play Bale. If Hutton were to come good, we'd have the same scenario at right back. Its a nice situation to be in.

As for Bale at left midfield, i'd rather we stick to Modric or Kranjcar on the left.

You'd rather play Krankie on the left than Bale Eek

What did you put in your cornflakes this morning ?

Probably milk as it's a perfectly sensible suggestion.

I just think it suits us better to have 1 winger (Lennon) and one midfielder who comes infield (Modric or Kranjcar). I also think Bale is better suited coming from deep aswell. He is our Danni Alves and i think by having Modric/Kranjcar on the left drifting infield, it opens a bit more space for Bale to run into.

Fair play. It's true that he does fly through sometimes because fullback is tied up with the other one.

He also skins his opponents around the outside one on one so I'd like to see us breaking with the ball into space for him further up the pitch and squaring a la Lennon for Defoe etc.

Ekotto LB, Bale LW. Both very attacking and can cover each other if need be

They should be rotated depending on who the left winger is going to be, the opposition and how the manager wants us to play. And that is how the rest of the squad should be treated as well, so they all 1. feel that they are contributing to the success of the club and 2. don't think that they are wasting their time on the bench here.
