In terms of defending Ekotto isn't any better than average. As a footballer he is technically one of the best.

He has a very lethargic attitude to defending and it isn't a good quality in a defender. He's also a bottler.

He can be lazy and lethargic at times yes, but he reads the game very well the majority of the time, hence his high interception rate, disagree with him being a bottler though.

Beniot Assou-Ekotto is one of three best left backs in the EPL second only to Ashley Cole IMO.
