Beniot Assou-Ekotto is one of three best left backs in the EPL second only to Ashley Cole IMO.
So, 2nd best?

Pah. Benny is brilliant. He rarely loses his head, he has always said he prefers to play the ball out of defense, his attacking talents are getting better all the time, and provides better crosses from the left than Bale at the minute.
Plus, he's the fucking dude.

He got his clock wrong this morning and was an hour early for training. LOL
I just realised its a Spurs tradition...nutters at left back - Taricco, Van der Hauwe, Atouba, Tramezzani (arguably just rubbish rather than nutter) Thatcher, BAE......there you go!
Pls use the link below and check BAE’s stats. Go Players->choose Defender->

The bits I've picked out below were up to 01.02.12, sure they're different now
3rd in goal assists
3rd in fouls won
2nd in key passes
2nd in total passes (1356) (Kyle Walker 983)
3rd in successful passes (1083) (Kyle Walker 808)
It’s about time some of you appreciated how beneficial he is to our success, the ball always goes to benny (for a reason).
Why he constantly gets picked out as a scape goat is crazy. I have to say I'm not keen on these knee jerk comments about him. When did any of our players suddenly become perfect.
Can you just elaborate on those stats. Is he 3rd in assists on out team or for LB's in the league or what ?
I don't think he gets scapegoated at all, I think he gets a lot of leeway because he's a bit of a dude. Everyone, even his critics acknowledge that he is technically a very good footballer who is very comfortable on the ball, but the problem is and has always been he has a slightly casual attitude to defending sometimes and this can be a major drawback in a defender.
He hasn't always offered a whole lot in the opponents third either. For me, if he could improve what he does at either end of the pitch, particularly the defending end, he'd be very, very good.
I can understand why he's our first choice, but I honestly think he's a little over rated as a complete package by many on here, and his personality has a lot to do with it.

Stoof!?! :snooty:
He is indoubtedly the best LB Spurs have had in my lifetime (32 years). I don't think anyone could argue with that.
YP Lee was the best LB in my opinion and I'm 46. Atouba was possibly better defensively and in an attacking sense and was equally comfortable on the ball. But he didn't say cool stuff.
