If he does end up going, I'd be interested to hear whether any ITKs could clarify exactly what his role was, after he's off the payroll and therefore they wouldn't be disclosing info about current Club personnel.

To expand to a wider scope on the same point, whenever JJ's professional association with Spurs comes to an end (hopefully not for many years to come), imagine the moolah he could make by publishing an autobiography. There must be a goldmine of info of things that nearly-happened-but-never-quite-got-finalised that he's sitting on, and a public who would be very keen to hear it!

I always had the impression that he was a professional schmoozer. Role up in a nice suit and sweet talk deals out of people with his dulcet Italian tone, over a glass of Courvoisier and a cheeky Nandos.

He wanted to leave January, but was agreed to see out this window to assist sales mainly, along with incomings as far as I am aware.

ITKs have already verified what his role was.
It's in the Baldini thread a few months back.

Looking forward, if Poch at some point goes does that mean Mitchell and his team will leave with him? Worst case scenario will we be back to square one?

Who oversees our youth programme, wider philosophy etc. at the moment? Genuine question as I don't know.

Back to square one would be my guess.

It's why I reckon Levy is serious about sticking with Pochettino for the next few seasons. Pure speculation but I suspect that (or hope) that Levy explained the situation to Pochettino during the interview - we're limited financially until the stadium is built, we'll bring in the supporting coaches/scouts you want, we'll try our best to bring in affordable/gettable targets, and we want you to focus on developing the youth players.

I'm not Pochettino's biggest fan, but it's why I really want us to stick by him for as long as possible. The last thing we need is another rebuilding job. We're still trying to undo the damage done under AVB!

I do not know what this man did but I thank him for his presumed service.

I quite agree, really hope he succeeds, I just wonder if DL will get twitchy at some point because despite what you say he still has a tendency to flinch when things start to go a bit tits up. Poch is a different beast to AVB, more personable and reasonable it seems so fingers crossed, would be great to see a manager actually get the right amount of time and backing to do his thang but as always results will decide that.

Yep. I think AVB was a little deluded, and perhaps Levy strung him along with a few false promises (*cough* Moutinho *cough*), so the relationship broke down pretty quickly. I get the feeling that Levy has been a bit more honest with Pochettino, and sees him as someone who is themselves a relatively up and coming manager without a big ego (unlike AVB) that would enjoy the challenge of moulding his own team at a higher level than Southampton.

As you say, the results will end up being the main issue though. If Pochettino has to work with what he can get and we end up playing dull, ineffective football, Levy will ditch Pochettino at the first sign of significant unrest in the stands.

I would like to see the club adopt the Ajax or Bayern model of appointing an ex player in this role as director of football. My choice would be hoddle but perhaps a role Freund could take over.

Aside from Lamela, I'm not sure whether our signing decisions have been down to Baldini.
My impression is that he was told to land the players we wanted, and that he did so.
And this summer was told to sell players, again seem to have done the job.
Not sure it's fair to attack Baldini, think he's been somewhat of a fall guy.

The trouble is, people with vision frequently dislike interfering others. Hoddle I think would drive a manager nuts. I am not convinced of dogs. Too rational and commonsense to work for real. At least with us.

Spurs would probably make him sign a non disclosure agreement;)

Are people sure he wasn't just a negotiator in transfers? Because he seemed to get those done pretty effectively and quickly.

I am so happy Baldini will be gone because from now on everything will be fine at WHL. It's well known that everything that went wrong at Spurs was all Baldini's fault. After his departure ALL the players Spurs want will sign for Spurs in no time, and for the price Levy wants, and ALL of the players Spurs do sign will be huge hits. From now on Spurs can do anything wrong!

I sense sarcasm...
