It may sound strange but I think David Beckham must bear much of the blame for the poor quality of crosses in English football nowdays. Of course he has fantastic technique and has for a long time been able to put that into his game as skill. His abilty to swing and dip his crosses comes from how he strikes across the ball. Unfortunately many players have tried to copy this technique which is complex and gone away from the 'get to the touchline and pull the ball back' bread and butter stuff. Beckham tends to send the ball in from the edge of the 18 yard box which is in itself counter to generally accepted wisdom because it tends to be at the keeper and defence......Of course the pace and swing of Beckhams delivery is exceptional but when tried by lesser lights we see many frustrating situations as the crosser inexplicably hits the first defender! Lets get back to basics.....do the simple stuff most of the time.....crosses need to reach the six yard box most of the time by being lifted.

I actually understand his point. I don't really agree with it though, it's just Bentley who tries to cross a ball ala Beckham..

Lets blame Rooney for lack of goals if players start not scoring too!!!

Yeah lets blame Beckham for his amazing crosses, lets also blame Bobby Charlton for his goal scoring from midfield, i mean Lampard & Gerrard TRY and be like him but its not working, I blame him so much. he and Becks must take the blame for our average copy-cat players.
