I have a feeling the midfield clear out is because we are very close to signing someone.

Nah, it's just cuz we're overstocked.

We could not sign anyone and realistically still have enough cover with Dembele, Mason, Bentaleb, Carroll, Alli and Winks.

I think we'll sign someone but I don't reckon we're close yet.

There was a rumor once. Supposedly French-speaking faction (Capoue, Kaboul, Ade, maybe Stambouli, too) bullied younger players to get more game time, but it backfired and Poch froze them all out. Perhaps there was something to that as to why Stambouli never got a chance.

If he ends up at Watford (or another PL club) he'll be a revelation I reckon. Not that I'd criticise us getting rid of him as it seems necessary. Still, it's quite a shame as he seems to have a quality attitude (as opposed to Capoue, Paulinho, Dembele) allied to considerable untapped talent.

Hope so but it's only worth drastically reducing your squad players if the player you're bringing in has a unique skill set and will lift over central midfield to the next level.

we have a lot of players who either don't play or don't offer anything really we had 3 mids last year Mason, Bents and Dembele I am glad we are not selling any of our starting 11 this year and just selling our squad players and buying players who will hopefully improve the starting 11.

Stambouli seems like a good guy, but for the role of late midfield substitute would you really prefer Stambouli over Dembele or Alli? I think even without a great CM signing, Stambouli is excess to requirements. Where would you put Stambouli in this lineup (with subs)? We need someone who can top Mason, not someone who can be fighting for first sub with Dembele and Alli

Feel like whoever we bring in needs to be top drawer. Can't have another warm body in the ranks in the event they are needed. If we could land a strong DM to pair with Bentaleb it could really change how we play and how shittastic we were in defense.

How could you bully a player to get more playing time? That does not make any sense to me.

This is old news, and I don't think it had anything to do with Stambouli, who was with the club for the post-season tour.

There was quite a bit of talk at the time. Supposedly included half a dozen names in the click, but the names of only Ade, Capoue and Kaboul were definite.
