I've said it for quite a while now - the boy's class. If ever there was proof that my opinion of a player can be changed full circle, it's this man.

In my very honest opinion, Benny is turning in to one of the most rounded and impressive full backs in the Premiership. People wax lyrical about how good Charlie has been for us, and while I certainly like him, Assou-Ekotto has been our best full back this season by miles. Not only is he becoming more solid at the back with every passing game, but his energy, calmness on the ball, and final ball are simply brilliant.

For someone who doesn't like football, he's doing a pretty good job of pretending he cares :)

Not many good left backs about that are consistently good (thinking Shorey here).

If he does get his wish to return to France, he'll be missed. His first full season in the shirt and it may be his last. Hopefully by then Bale will have grown up a bit. Like Murray in the tennis world has.

I love him, even if he does look like a pigeon.

He's quick, never stops running, strong in the tackle and getting better positionally. He is a player who is quite clearly maturing before our very eyes and always runs the length of the pitch to celebrate with the players when we score.

I said a long time ago tha he had all the attributes to be a great LB, and if we nurtured him right and didn't give up on him then he would become just that.

I might have a flutter on him, only problem is I can't rely on Spurs to keep a clean sheet in any game

I was really impressed with him last night. If he keeps this up then he will have been transformed from dead wood to dead good!

My main issue with him was the fact that he always tended to overcomplicate things. I've often seen him win the ball but then get himself back into trouble by being too cute with it and gifting the ball back to the opposition. However, he's now performing consistently and, along with Corluka Woodgate and Dawson, forming a very solid defence. If you look at our league stats, we've only conceeded 9 goals in 12 home games which is very creditable. Obviously our away stats aren't as good but we've had problems with our away form for years.

Yep good player always thought he looked good, needed to work on his defensive duties a bit more when we brought him (and to an extent he still does). He's very comfortable in possession and has a very good engine, still young enough to improve plenty more aswell.

How good would he be if he had a decent left sided midfielder in front to give him more options. He's perfect for PL as he's technically good, physical and full of pace.

I think those quotes come from some months back. Since then he's become nailed-on first choice. I suppose if Lyon or Marseille or PSG came in he might be tempted, but let's not worry about it.

Right now I'd say he's better than anyone other than Evra, Clichy and Cashley, and he's closing the gap on those three. I still miss Leapy, but not in the sense that he's the only decent LB at the club.

Nice meeting you yesterday. Gotta agree and hang my head in shame (I couldn't stand him before). He's been impressive for a while now.

Right back at ya, fella

I couldn't stand him for a lot of his first season, although there was always glimpses of real talent there. He was brilliant in the Cups vs Cardiff (4-0) and Arsenal (2-2), but then very soon after was crocked long term :-( He's come back a new player, and fingers crossed there's even more to come!

Surely you must rate Wayne Bridge more? He is afterall supposedly the best paid fullback in the world?

I've been really enjoying BAE's recent performances and the only thing that worries me really is his recklessness at times when it comes to tackling.

has been fantastic, has had some shaky games buthes still quite young.

At the moment he is on fire and, dare I say it, one of the most rampant LBs in the league!

Have to nit pick that the goal was kinda his fault a little because he was out of position as the back 4 should be narrow and tight, BUT in his defence he was picking up the winger as Lennon had gone forward for the attack. And Woodgate should have covered but I am sensing Woody is most definately playing through the pain barrier because I haven't seen him this off the pace in 12months at WHL

His crosses (especially from deep) are generally pretty good and cause our oppos a lot of trouble

I love the way he fakes a cross and then comes inside with great pace. Totally shits the RB up and he must do it 3 or 4 times a game. I think he's learned that from Hutton.

Ah the old hindsight and "I always said..." threads we know and love. We had one of these about Benny a few weeks ago didn't we ? Funny as I seem to remember 99% of the site saying he was total crap and should be sold immediately

Rob, PT is there any way to search by user name AND subject to establish whether any of these posts can be backed up ?

Could even label it 'blatant, fickle, hindsight bullsh*t' search or something:)

I know I'm telling the truth as I said on here several times that BAE has the natural talent but needs to work on positioning, decision-making
