Assou-Ekotto has been everything Chalrie has defensively, but much better offensively. Charlie supports his winger well, but he can't cross for toffee. Benny offers a genuine threat down the left, and him huggling the touchline last night and drawing the midfielder away left Lennon one of one with his full back a few times last night. I'm sure he would have had even more opertunities to do the same if Harry hadn't swapped Bentley (who was playing quite well on the right) with Azza.

I've been really enjoying BAE's recent performances and the only thing that worries me really is his recklessness at times when it comes to tackling.

Sums him up at the moment really. I still think he lacks judgement as a defender, sometimes in the tackle, sometimes in his positioning. Despite a few mistakes last night he did play very well as did the rest of the team. But Stoke were truly atrocious partly at our hands and partly through their own ineptitude. Let's see over the next few games.

I love the way he fakes a cross and then comes inside with great pace. Totally shits the RB up and he must do it 3 or 4 times a game. I think he's learned that from Hutton.

No, he was doing that long before Hutton turned up.

I love Mr.Mellow

One of very few that can take a red card with class. No bitching, accepts it and calmly walks off.

....and after that important part of his game.....he's coming good in all areas.

He's always been good, it's just the fact that he also has the ability to completely switch off for a second at key times... it's happening less frequently now tho...

Like completely stop chasing a striker through on goal, or lunge into a late tackle... out of nowhere... after being brilliant for the rest of the game...

With him I think it's more a question of his mental ability, feet wise, he has the talent...

What pissed me off was the comentator saying he was faking being hurt.

He is a tough little nut, and if he acts hurt, he is hurt. I;ve seen him be kicke dup in the air and get straight back up with that bored look on his face. Love it.

He was a bit green and straight from the French league when he came to us and he got roasted quite a few times and then got the bad injury so first impressions lived with him for a long time.
I always thought he was good and hoped he would become good enough with experience but to be honest I had come to fear that he'd be off back to France without getting the chance to prove himself.

Really pleased with his performances now, I even like the way he doesn't get phazed by things (red cards) it just isn't life and death to him, I guess thats a French thing maybe.
Glad he's getting some due credit now.

hi chris - all about opinions etc - the reasons you give are precisely why he hasnt always been good

defending is so much dependent on not switching off - on not doing stupid tackles etc etc

even now i´ll need quite a few more good games before i call bae a good prem defender

for me he´s gone from substndard to quite good

Yeah sorry I guess the word should be 'talented' as opposed to 'good'

He's always been talented, but needs to sort out his mentality if he's ever gonna be a 'top, top' defender...

Just this season I can think of the Man City red card and the almost-own-goal against Burnley as moments when he's had a severe lapse in concentration, luckily both didn't have any consequences, but if they had he'd of been torn apart on here and in the press...

The good news is their getting far less frequent, if he can iron them out completely he'll be a very good player!

I remember in his first season he would switch off maybe 5 times a match... now it's down to once or twice...

BAE has been a real revelation this season and has probably been one of our best players. All he's got to do though is sort out that bloody hair, com on Harry, have a word with him, he looks like a throw back from a 1970's disco film. All his missing is the white suit and a gold medallion.

BAE is the coffee-coloured one with the cornrows or crazy badger Afro who's a good LB.

Bale is the white kid with the Vulcan ears who isn't that good an LB, yet.

Either you missed out an 'l' or your labrador needs checking out ASAP.
