Bent's fate was sealed once Keano came back.

This story is irrelevant really, though the one thing of note is he says he'll keep putting in 100%.

Fingers-crossed, Bent will score a few goals before the end of the season that could be very important!

I really can't believe that people hate a player so much that if we didn't have, we'd be definitely be playing Championship football next season. Throughout his injuries and being dropped, he's one of the Premiership's highest scorers.

I think he should go. He deserves to have better support than the sheer weight of fickle supporters we have. He deserves better.

Bent is a great finisher, but he doesn't win much in the air, is frequently outmuscled by defenders, rarely takes on or beats defenders, and is generally pretty anonymous for huge parts the games that he plays. Of course, the fact that we've never seemed to even try to play to his strengths or give him the type of service he's thrived on at other clubs is hardly his fault.

I'd like him to stay, but I can't say I'll be too distraught if he goes.

my thoughts exactly.. He also doesn't seem to be strong mentally either.. Which in our position is a key factor in our players.. When JD missed some great chances against Pompey, his head never dropped, he almost knew that he would score.. Bent doesn't have that confidence in himself.. Confidence comes with regular game time, but with all his goals, he should be filled with confidence, but no, his head has dropped.

Exactly punky. The ironic thing is that it is probably the same people who where keen to sign him in the first place and overjoyed when we did.

Fact is there were many on this board saying this. Tables have once again turned, which is so ofthen the case with us Spurs fans.

IMO we have never learnt to play to Bents strengths, he appears absent for long periods in the game as we dont play a brand of football that suits him. Personally i think we should have brought him into games more than what we have done. It is also fact that he is never going to contribute much to the game other than shooting, so he will go missing at times. What disappoints me most about Bent is his apparent inability to beat players.

I do remember some members glad that we signed Bent because he would replace Keane in the starting eleven. We always over-analyse the players we have at the club and tend to be harsh on them whereas we tend to see only highlights of other teams players and regard them more highly. Even Carrick got his far share of critism when he was here.

I'm not saying Bent is a great player, but we have certainly seen a lot worse at the club and getting rid of him in no way assures someone better will come in.

Let's just appreciate Bent for his positive contribution towards this seasson. His goals have made sure of progression in both the carling cup (Watford) and the UEFA cup (Krakow). He has also helped us earn draws away at Chelsea and Arsenal.

I just don't think Spurs should change their style of football just to accommodate Darren Bent, If that means other players in the team suffer. Charlton played a brand of football suited to Bent and went down. Simply put, he should never have been signed.

Also a win at City—and should have got us a point against Bolton. Subtract those 5 points from what we've currently got and see where we'd be.

that quote about it being silly saying pav and him couldn't play together, it's ancient. he was talking about gus saying it when ramos was here.

I knew some nobbers would post with the 'fuck off then' 'not good enough anyway' type lines.

No respect at all from some of these cretins. The guy has sat by the wayside quietly and consistently done a job when called upon. It's merely an honest assessment of where he is in his career. He could've pissed and moaned and forced through a cut price deal in January if he really wanted to go but he wants to be here, he just wants to play.

It's a shame that our top scorer in the league by some way can't get any credit.

Gus came out with that after we'd lost to Pompey. He didn't qualify it at all (i.e., no 'at the moment', 'yet', 'ever'). He was also immediately contradicted by Ramos in one of his rare public utterances in English, claiming that we'd gone with one up front because it had worked against the Barcodes.

Someone obviously forgot to read the script.

Spot on, particularly about the fools that post those "fuck off then" comments. Makes them look like ignorant twats TBF. Bent is not one of my favourite strikers but i respect him. Remember he snubbed higher money offers to come to us in the first place. He has held his head high behind the scenes and i think everyone can understand his frustration and why he has said what he has said. I think he has let himself down by going to the Sun, but he hasnt really criticised us.

Some of the so called fans on here have not one bit of loyality about them.

I do feel a little sorry for him, he is though the epitome of our season, completely inconsistent :-|

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/sport/football/article2233753.ece

DARREN BENT has scored more times this season than Wayne Rooney, Emile Heskey, Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Gabriel Agbonlahor, Michael Owen and Carlton Cole.
In fact, the only top-flight Englishman to have bettered Bent’s 14-goal tally so far is Steven Gerrard.

Yet when England played in Spain this week the £16million Spurs striker was not even considered for the squad.

Bent, though, was not surprised to be left out. If you are not playing for your club, you are not going to play for your country.

And the former Charlton and Ipswich ace knows he might have to leave White Hart Lane this summer if he is going to achieve all his ambitions in football.

He said: “I’ve spoken to the manager a couple of times about my position but I can only hear the same thing so many times.

“I’m not one of those players who will just sit back and let his career pass him by.

“I’ll bang on his door. At least I’m still involved. I’m not being left out of the squad or anything like that.

Suspicion

“But I’m only 25 and there is so much more to come from me as a player. I’m not the finished article and I will get better.

“I’d like to think that improvement will be with Tottenham. But if nothing is happening for me by the end of the season then I will look to go elsewhere.

“I need to play more games. I want to play football. I don’t want another season where I’m in and out of the team all the time.

“I’ve actually scored quite a lot of goals this season, considering I’m not playing regularly.

“So I’m going to have to weigh up my options in the summer.”

Bent has hardly been helped by the fact that he has played for three different managers and with six different strike partners since his big-money move from Charlton 20 months ago.

He added: “The constant change has definitely made things more difficult.

"I’ve played with Dimitar Berbatov, Robbie Keane, Jermain Defoe, Giovani Dos Santos, Fraizer Campbell and Roman Pavlyuchenko and not really had time to develop an understanding with any of them.

“Last year, we sold three of our strikers and now most of them are back at the club — which is strange.”

Now there is the suspicion that current boss Harry Redknapp does not really rate Bent, who has started just three of Tottenham’s last 16 games.

Within days of arriving at White Hart Lane, Redknapp said Bent and Pavlyuchenko could not play together.

Bent added: “It was a bit of a silly thing to say because we hadn’t really had time to gel as a partnership.”

Yet Redknapp had not finished there and recently declared “my missus could have scored that one” after Bent squandered a glorious chance during the 1-1 draw against Portsmouth.

Bent said: “Those comments were quite hard to take because I knew better than anyone that I should have scored.

“But the next game I played, I came on and scored twice.”

Bent admits this season has a been a huge disappointment and added: “I really thought this was going to be my big chance. Pre-season went really well for me and I felt so sharp. But, for whatever reasons, I just haven’t played as much as I’d hoped.

“There were huge expectations at the club at the start of the season. But it was the same situation when I joined in 2007. And it hasn’t happened on either occasion.

“Villa are having a fantastic season and, when you look at what they’re doing, it’s something Spurs should be capable of.

“There’s no doubt we’ve got the quality. We’re just far too inconsistent. At times we’ve been brilliant but at other times we’ve been really poor.

“We’ve been too easy to beat, too fragile — and conceded a lot of silly goals from set-plays.

“The signs are there that we’re slowly starting to turn it around but we really need to kick on from here. We’ve got a massive couple of months coming up and if a few results go against us we’ll be back in the bottom three.”

Redknapp has already declared that Premier League survival is his only concern this season but Bent still has aspirations of achieving cup glory.

He said: “I was on the bench for last season’s Carling Cup final and didn’t get on, which was disappointing. So I hope I’ll be involved this time against Manchester United.

“And then there’s the UEFA Cup. Jermain is injured and Robbie and Pav are ineligible. So next week’s game in Donetsk is definitely a chance for me.

“I have never lost faith in my ability and I know for a fact that I can do well at the highest level. I’ve already proved that. But you get frustrated when you’re not playing regularly.

“All I can do is keep working as hard as possible and grab every opportunity I get. Because any manager in the world will like you if you put the ball in the net.”

Close the door on your way out :hello:

some of the posts on this thread are laughable to say the least. 14 goals in 30 odd games is a record not to be sniffed at. He's a striker and at the end of the day his job is to put the ball in the back of the net, not to run around like a headless chicken for 90 mins. Funny how 2 of the leading scorers in the PL are strikers who are accused of being lazy and not appreciated at there respective clubs (Anelka & Bent). Given him the chances and more often than not he puts them away. I wish someone could pull out a stat, SS57 get it sorted, of shots on goal to goals scored ratio as I'm pretty certain Bent would be VERY high up on that list!

I feel a little bit for Darren. He is a goalscorer, and would be a very good player in a settled team. Unfortunately we chop our line up more than Gordon Ramsey chops tomatoes.

I never felt he would be able to work with Pav, and once JD was signed I thought that was the end of his time. He could work well with Keane but he will never get the chance to build up that partnership. if he is still with us next season I will be massively surprised

Totally agree.

For the good of his career i really think he should move on. Harry obviously doesnt rate him and hes never going to be a first team starter under him.

Shame as a I rate him and with 14 goals already this season I would think he would have done enough to show what hes capable of.

Given where we are in the league every match is becoming like a cup match so we could really do with the option of route 1 football .

We don't have it though because nobody , Pav included , can act as a target man .

As for others saying "not good enough for where we want to be" , it is the impatience and short cuts which were taken to get "where we want to be" which have put us in this situation .
