He hasn't scored when he hasn't started and generally scored when he has, even when the rest of the team were awful.

As much as I love Keano, he doesn't get enough goals and I feel Pav doesn't either and Defoe certainly doesn't. If we can get the ball to Bent he'll score, but so many times I've seen him in a great position and not passed to. He would have burried that chance Modric missed, it was far easier than the one Bent missed. Then again the mistake was not passing to Keane in the first place.

I sometimes wonder if he doesn't always get the passes he deserves.

I also then wonder whether that ITK about Bent being disliked by the rest of the squad (not least for spreading word about training and team matters to outsiders, allegedly) has something to it.

But, regardless of that, I think he's in the position he deserves to be. All too frequently he doesn't offer enough options or quick, intelligent play to challenge defenders. The ability to be in the right place at the right time and hit the onion bag is unquestionably useful, though. Hence, why he'll be a great squad player for us. Until he buggers off, anyway.

Darren it's time for you to go. The manager does not appreciate you and the majority of fans do not appreciate you. You scored a hat trick and fans chanted Defoe's name. You are the top scorer but the fans treat you like a arsenal player, then bleat about a lack of loyalty from Keane and Berbatov.

The fans who say you are not good enough then list players such as Jason Roberts, Kevin Davies and Bobby Zamora just to name a few are deluded.
They have deluded visions of grandeur. We are not a side challenging for fifth, sixth or seventh place we are a relegation threatened club. Finishing 13th is going to be considered a good season. Next year the likelyhood is we will not be in Europe, so having four quality strikers will be a waste of time.

We are going to be a transitional mediocre club for five years+ and its unlikely we qualify for Europe for a very long time indeed. So we will lose our best players anyway. Get out of this sinking club fast and go to Villa or Everton. I think Villa would be best for you. Champions leagues football beats sitting on the bench for a relegation club.

Thanks for the goals

What a silly post!

The reason people talk about players like Roberts is not that they are better than Bent, it is that they are different to Bent in that they can hold the up and bring others into play! Can you honestly not see that Bent is one dimensional and unable to form a partnership?

It is surely more than coincidence that the past 3 managers have not fancied him and neither do the fans.

Nice lad, great attitude, but ultimately not what we need and it would be better for all concerned if he moved on.

Darren Bent is a decent goal scorer, we all know that. But he is a limited footballer, who needs to played in a certain way. IE, up front on the shoulder of the defender with passes he can run onto and beat the defence for speed. Finding space or challenging in the air, are not his strong points. He has suffered more than most with the lack of creativity from our midfield. We also at times take ages to get the ball forward to the attackers. In short he is a good enough player, shame for him he is at the wrong club to utilise his outstanding pace. I see him moving in the summer without doubt.

Darren Bent gets goals. Unfortunately for Bent in his first season he was injured a lot and also was not able to break up the successful Berbatov-Keane Partnership. I have not seen Bent getting a good service or given a proper chance to form a partnership. He scored two goals against Bolton and he still did not get credit.

Have you had a look at the table? We are two points away from the relegation zone. Without Bent's goals we would be in real shit. Really think Roberts, Zamora etc is the way forward? Then good luck...

People better wake up and realize that we do not have an automatic right to attract the Berbatov's of this world. If we don't qualify for Europe and/or go down we won't even be able to attract the likes of Jason Roberts here and a large amount of our squad will become unsettled.

The way Bent gets treated is disgusting and a eye opener. I wouldn't blame Bent if he just ran out his contract and moved on a free.

Not much doubt that he'll be on his way and to be honest I don't have much doubt that in a years time he'll be scoring regularly for his new club, he's one of the best one on one with the goaly in the business, and we'll have threads on here asking why couldn't he do it for us, the answer of course is that he could have done but we couldn't!

I will wish him all the best when he goes, he is one of the good guys and doesn't deserve the shit he's had.

great goal scorer, however 1 dimentional......I belive he dosnt suit the way we are playing (this could change) especialy when we had Keane and Berba. He deserves better and a move elsewhere may just help him achieve what he is capable of. Personaly I wouldnt be too upset if he goes, but I will wish him luck for the future and am sure he will score a lot of goals

Obviously he's not the only loser in our dressing room

He's got no fight or competitive edge in him. He can't see that you have to make things happen for yourself. Even when he comes on as substitute he doesn't hare around trying to make an impression.

He's too passive

He's strange player in that he's rubbish in some respects and brilliant in others

Re the rubbish, his posture resembles a shitting dog a lot of the time, he has an awful first touch, mistimes most of his jumps and mostly fails to link the play

I think the way he always shots early is excellent though. I've never seen a player score so many by drilling it slightly to one side of the keeper or through his legs. His acceleration and pace getting on to lose balls in the box is very good and he usually works hard

I wish him all the best also, but he's not right for this club because we'll never be able to play free flowing football consistently with him in the team

We don't play free flowing football even when he is not in the team.

I am just being honest, I see a very very bleak future ahead. Aston Villa and Everton are the ones who are going for a champions league or European spots now. While we are no where. We finished 12th last season and this season could be worse.

We can not expect to keep our best players if we are nothing more than a midtable/bottom half side.
