No chance Villa would even think about selling their "main man" in January when they are only 5-6 points off of a relegation scrap. Benteke more or less single handedly kept Villa up last season i think they will need him again. A Summer move maybe? but i seriously think Arsenal will go for him.

Would they sell to us if we then immediately loaned him back until the end of the season i wonder ?

We should go all for him imo.

He was my 1st choice in the summer and the only thing that has changed is he'd be cheaper now as he isn't scoring.

That is down to two reasons, one, he's been injured, two, villa are not playing well & not creating chances for him.

No is a great opportunity and villa would not be able to turn down a decent bid, they just aren't rich enough.

Also, seeing as they want a number 10, I'm sure they'd like sigurdsson in the deal.

Better to go for Bony after his display today.

Bony is a powerhouse as is Benteke. I think both would cost us £20m+ Benteke having signed a new deal and Bony in his first year of a contract Benteke has good aerial threat whereas Bony has a rifle of a shot on him...either one of them would be a good purchase imo IF we chose to spend big on a forward again?.

The problem would be who would sit out? at the minute it would be Soldado as Ade is playing well and more importantly scoring goals and that's a massive amount of money to spend on a striker to be 3rd choice as one would presume the player coming in would get the nod over him as it would be the current managers buy? would we look to shift Soldado out and take a hit on what we paid for him? just to bring in another big buy?.

Realistically unless we're gonna go 442 most of the time we've no need for a big name striker unless one of ade or soldado leaves. With 1 upfront the 3rd choice needs to be a young prospect otherwise we'll never keep them all happy. If we stay 442 I rather any striker we buy be one that can drop deeper and get involved in the play to add an extra man to midfield when needed

Bony has the better technique IMO, Benteke slightly better in the air. I'd go for Bony.

Benteke is still excellent at picking the ball out of the air against the back line, something we're still very weak at despite Ade's newfound confidence and decent work ethic. I think Benteke's ability to do so, combined with our creative midfielders and his ability to make runs in behind could be devastating. I agree that Bony is certainly the in form player at the moment, but I maintain that Benteke would be absolutely perfect for us.

An absolutely ideal swap for both involved, as each would improve his respected new squad. With Benteke's form, we could probably do it at a loss of no more than 15 mil, which is a great price for a striker of his proven ability.

Check out Bony's record in the Eredivisie last season. This isn't just a brief patch of good form. Should have signed Bony when we had the chance. By the end of this season he'll be a target for richer clubs than us.

Didn't say it was a brief patch, said that he's in it, and that he's reached it recently. With no end in sight, a "patch" is an impossible claim to make. Bony was terrible up through November. Slow, cumbersome, conceded the ball frequently, and couldn't even keep the ball in the stadium with his shooting. I admire his ethic and ability to get it done and become what is clearly at the moment a quality Premier League striker, but I don't think we should have pursued him over some of the options we went after. Go back to August, no one complains with the pickup of one of the top scorers in La Liga and then clammers for someone from the Eredivisie.

Well I was hoping we'd sign Bony throughout last summer as it seemed pretty clear that he would do well in the Prem, but I was still very happy that we got Soldado. I just think Bony would have been a better fit, and as it turned out, at half the price.

Props to ya then. I was a sucker for that goal tally in La Liga. Would have preferred Benteke of course since he was Prem-proven, but I thought Soldado looked a great buy after Benteke signed his new deal.

Benteke all day long over Bony. Not even a contest for me albeit he was good today - but I have seen all Swansea's live games this season and he hasn't impressed me greatly.

A bit of shift and a very powerful shot. I think Benteke has the better all round game without doubt.

I'll give the Bony sympathizers that he can also shield the ball extremely well. It's weird seeing someone protect the ball from a full body check by Dembele. However, I don't think that adds into the style we want to play, while several of Benteke's attributes certainly do. Also, as @Tyler24durden said, we also have players in our squad not seeing time that are in areas that Villa could immensely use.
