To be fair, yes he is better than Jones. I was making the comparison mainly to highlight how Jones had one season where he looked like he had a lot of potential, and was considered as a possible option by us. Of course Sunderland tried to charge us a ridiculous amount (£25m was the value I remember hearing), and we dropped our interest like a hot potato.

Throughout last season I thought Benteke looked like a player that was benefiting from being a surprise element. At no point did I think "here's the next Drogba". Some players do well at smaller clubs, where the opposition are more likely to leave space at the back when they attack. Just look at how many goals Darren Bent scored. Put him in a side where the final third is going to be much tighter, with less opportunities coming your way, and I suspect Benteke would struggle.

I'm willing to reassess my opinion of him at the end of this season, but I think he's been found out, and I certainly don't think he's worth twice as much as Swansea paid for Bony (a much better player IMO).

I disagree. He's still been a very good player, he started off the season red hot and then had an injury and has stuggled to get going again, which coincided with Villa going a bit shit again. He's still got a good touch, vision and can score lots of different goals. He's also much quicker than Bony who doesn't really run the channels like Benteke or Ade can do. He's also a couple of years younger than Bony.

Benteke linking up with our other creative players would be very good indeed. Much like Ade is doing now.

That's one to cross off the list. I would much rather we go for Lukaku anyways.

Out for 6 months - I supposed this changes our position. Would it be worth investing if he is back in around September?

Nah, Achilles tendon ruptures are not easy to recover from. He won't be back to himself for at least a year.

Feel bad for Benteke, never nice to miss out on a big competition like that through injury.

His value would certainly drop now but we're talking 6 months, that's roughly October time. Season well under way and that's a big injury to come back from, very easy to have relapses. It'd be typical Spurs to sign him though, and for him to become the next frequent visitor to the Spurs treatment table.

It seems to be a very bad injury for a footballer, I would hope we would stay away. It looks like it's pretty common to lose range of motion after surgery. I would be surprised if he is back in 6 months, even with hgh peptides and something like deca/anavar to increase collagen synthesis.

This. Athletes with this injury often don't return to a field for close to a year, and then don't return to their top form for considerable time over that year. Awful injury for the guy before his first World Cup, hate it for him.

Trix is saying this on COYS
I posted a bit in the Gone Fishin thread re Benteke's agent being asked to find a buyer......... Looks like a Prem side may well have bitten, fee very close to being agreed. Am told that CB is far from sold on the idea of heading to the north east though.

Oh and the fee is circa £10-12mil, Wonder what Mike Ashley's strategy could be on this one?

Should also add the quibbling atm is in regards to the hefty add ons Villa trying to attach, and even if they agree a price Benteke is going to be difficult to convince.

I've never been a fan of him, but for that price, I'd def take him. Even after that bad injury

Yeah there's a lot of difference in what you expect for £10/12 mill and what you expect for what was it they were asking last summer £28 mill or so

I'm also not a big fan and didn't want him last summer, but he is a powerful player that would be a useful option against certain teams and a player who could maybe make an impact late in games with that power and strength at a time when defenders might be tiring

I'd have took him at £20mil so £12 million is well worth it, I can't understand the scepticism to be honest, I think because he is a big strong guy people think that's all he has to his game, well it isn't, he's far more than that.

Jesus that's an absolute steal at that price.

At his best, and properly fit, he's better than Bony and Lukaku IMO.

He was absolute pants last season, 2nd season syndrome I'm afraid.

People on here want rid of Ade and want to bring in shite like Benteke, Bony and Remy in.

At the same time, if Villa - the same Villa who were holding out for £20m+ last summer - see him as a player to sell for only 10-12m.. I'm not so sure if he's back to his best. In fact, I'd go as far to say we'd probably be buying damaged goods.

I'd say they'd have serious concerns over his injury and the guy ever getting back to his absolute best.

I think Benteke is massively underrated and for £10m-£12m is a bargain.

His 1st season he was awesome.

His 2nd season he had injuries and Villa sold their best players and were rubbish.

Think he'd be a superb fit at Spurs.
