To be fair, yes he is better than Jones. I was making the comparison mainly to highlight how Jones had one season where he looked like he had a lot of potential, and was considered as a possible option by us. Of course Sunderland tried to charge us a ridiculous amount (£25m was the value I remember hearing), and we dropped our interest like a hot potato.
Throughout last season I thought Benteke looked like a player that was benefiting from being a surprise element. At no point did I think "here's the next Drogba". Some players do well at smaller clubs, where the opposition are more likely to leave space at the back when they attack. Just look at how many goals Darren Bent scored. Put him in a side where the final third is going to be much tighter, with less opportunities coming your way, and I suspect Benteke would struggle.
I'm willing to reassess my opinion of him at the end of this season, but I think he's been found out, and I certainly don't think he's worth twice as much as Swansea paid for Bony (a much better player IMO).
I disagree. He's still been a very good player, he started off the season red hot and then had an injury and has stuggled to get going again, which coincided with Villa going a bit shit again. He's still got a good touch, vision and can score lots of different goals. He's also much quicker than Bony who doesn't really run the channels like Benteke or Ade can do. He's also a couple of years younger than Bony.
Benteke linking up with our other creative players would be very good indeed. Much like Ade is doing now.
