Final bow for Dimitar Berbatov?

Russell Kempson

With the close-season transfer market due to open shortly, Juande Ramos, the Tottenham Hotspur head coach, has done little to dampen speculation that Dimitar Berbatov, the Bulgaria striker, will be leaving the club during the summer. Asked if Berbatov had played his last game for Tottenham, Ramos said: “I don’t know, I hope not.”
Berbatov did not feature in Tottenham’s 1-0 win against Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday. He suffered a groin injury in training on Friday and was left out of the squad. Ramos gave no indication whether Berbatov would play in Tottenham’s final match of the season, against Liverpool at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
Tottenham could decide to cash in on Berbatov, who has scored 23 goals this season and who could command a fee of up to £25 million. He has two years left on his contract but Manchester United as well as many of Europe’s leading clubs are believed to be interested in him.
The sale would help to swell the transfer kitty of Ramos, who has already spent £16.5 million on signing Luka Modric, the Croatia and Dynamo Zagreb midfield player. As a replacement for Berbatov, Tottenham have been linked with David Villa, of Valencia, and Samuel Eto’o, of Barcelona. “We can only talk about the players we have,” Ramos said. “Modric is one of them. But we have to see what happens and make some decisions about how we want the squad.”

 Hmmmm...I wonder if last weekend's report from Bent's friend on gg that Berba left Lunch in the Player's Lounge 20 mins early to walk around the WHL pitch in deep contemplation, his distance from the other players, and his resigned look of disappointment and sadness when he failed to score against Bolton was as a result of him knowing that it could've been his last match for us, and a transfer is imminent?

I respect Dan's postings, and always read with interest, but I'm afraid on this issue I can't see Berba staying for one more season or the club forcing him to. Taking into account the Webster Ruling which would come into effect when he reaches 28 and Levy's willingness to sell Defoe when he refused to sign a new contract, I personally think the writing is on the wall.

It's not about that he is the best Bulgarian player at the moment. I bought a Tottenham t-shirt and on the backside isn't written Berbatov, but Lennon. About Carrick and the fans there are really different positions. I'm telling you all that i've readed here since i'm registered. I dislike United, Chelsea and Arsenal and i'm not so interested if Berbatov will play there. I just want to see him playing his best. But Tottenham is not ready to win even the UEFA CUP. Dimitar has no time to waste. Bent is 23, Dimitar is 28. As a fan of CSKA Sofia i know him as a person. I can't tell you what he wants, let me leave the additional information for me, i'm telling you just some facts. And about his injury, the title of the thread is something like a question. It looks fishy as someone said. I am just discussing with you here. Yes, in Bulgaria we have thousands of speculations per day. Just respect the guy, whatever he decides. He deserves it.

You got Lennon tattooed on your ass?

I think that this will all be resolved in the next 10 days and for what its worth,I think Berbatov will be leaving!
I think it will be his loss too because whatever team he goes to - he will just be another good player in a good team!

They were top people all really friendly and quite chatty and told me a few things some quite shocking some interesting.

1) They was of the very deffinate opinion berbs was going now not later or at contract end apparently he was complaining about being at the kit launch and one of the things he was SUPPOSED to have said was "why am i hear are they going to stick somebody elses face over mine in the pictures" make of that what you will
smiley19.gif

...Amongst other stuff, but that was the Berbs bit.

It was said on here though that Berba had refused to be part of the kit launch publicity.

Heh heh -remember the Big Tone/KPB squad photo on the official site? They'll stick some other player's fez on Berba's body.

Im 99% convinced Berbs is off.At least he would appear to be going abroad though,if the fact that he has just bought a new left hand drive car is to be believed....

Berba's got as much of a groin injury as I have.

Although, I have been doing an awful lot of masturbating since Mrs Oddie went away...

Well i'm convinced he's off now and the deal has already been done with Barca. The supposed injury in training friday confirmed it for me (he didn't travel with the team to Reading)

Another thing I noticed last night was Eto'o again being subbed by Barca after the hour mark, every game i've seen lately of Barca's he's either been subbed or left out. Don't want to get there trade player injured perhaps.

Either that or he's been not as good as Messi, Bojan or Henry. He's certainly not scored as many as them for some time.

Eek

Yeah playing in the Nou Camp infront of 100,000 challenging for the title and CL, he'd be mad to leave us.
I mean by the time he's 31 he could possibly be doing the same thing at Tottenham infront of 60,000

Bye Berbs it was lovely watching you but it's time for us all to move on.

Spurs on the brain, obviously. :)

Seriously though, I'd love to think that Eto'o is on his way, but I can't see any reasons why he'd want to. Easily one of the biggest names in the world, surely he'd demand CL football. Either that, or he knows a lot of things we don't know about the future of our club.

He's (Eto'o) got 18 goals in 20 appearances this year. That's not too bad.

Henry's only mustered 7 goals in 26.

The point is that if he stayed at Spurs he would be a legend - at Barcelona he will be another good player in a very good squad!
Will he really be remembered there long after he has gone - sorry but I don't think so!

I agree with you completely. To me it now seems an odd career choice to go to Barca or Real. It's like when Gazza went to Lazio, he is a legend over there, yet if he had gone to Barca or Real he would be just another great player that has played for them in what is essentially a two horse race. Real have just won there 31st (I think) title, will this squad be remembered? - I doubt it.

Shit, really?

I was only taking the piss above but that surprises me as he's barely seemed like he's been banging them in. Is that league and CL? And I take it you mean season rather than year. Still, I stand corrected.

And I think three of those were a hat-trick against Levante.

Stop Press! He's now up to nine. He scored twice against that other shit team from Valencia yesterday.

Henry's 2nd goal yesterday was quality. Saying that, for a team that won the league in 2004, Valencia are awful.

I'm surprised we haven't been linked with Joaquin or Silva. I imagine they'll be off this summer if the price is right.
