Put on an excellent display yesterday of why they could use him. Sanchez looked a good buy at first, but he has gotten worse and worse for them as the season's progressed. If they could even take him on loan, I think it'd be a good move for all parties involved.

Yeah, I think if you can put Delph and Capoue in midfield you're basically set. Allows for Aston Villa to put more attacking tactics/personnel in front of them and they really could go on a nice run considering they do have some decent attacking options. Sanchez looked slow, uninterested and was incredibly wasteful. Cleverly is just the worst and Delph was having to try and do the job of 3 central midfielders.

Spot on. Capoue on a bad day would do a better job of plugging gaps defensively than Sanchez did in that match, and his passing range is undoubtedly superior. This would allow Delph a bit more freedom to get forward more as the disconnect between their defense and front line is the size of the Pacific Ocean, with each of their attackers on their own islands. Capoue would really help them with reintegrating, and if we decide we don't want him come the summer then he's easily acquired more value then him just seeing the occasional appearance for us.

Isn't there a rule where a club can only loan two players? Villa already have done that.

CAPOUE EYEING A MOVE

A new line breaking from Tottenham. Sources close to Etienne Capoue claim he could leave before the deadline - with a number of clubs at home and abroad interested.

The 26-year-old was a £9 million signing by Andre Villas-Boas 18 months ago but he has fallen out of favour at White Hart Lane. Reports have linked West Brom with the player.

Ornstein from the BBC is reporting that ManU have basically told Villa to cough up the £7m buy fee for Cleverly now or they will cancel the season long loan.

Cleverly is horrible, but his contract is up in the summer so i can't see how Villa would even consider paying.....but if it happens then even more reason for Villa to move for Capoue?

Yeah, definitely. Could get the ball rolling for sure. Cleverly is just the worst.

Interesting. For that fee, I think I'd much rather throw in an additional couple mil if that's what would convince Levy to depart with Capoue. No chance is Cleverley worth that fee, especially with them now having tied Delph down and having Westwood on the books.

Cleverly worth that much! No way. I don't like using the word over rated too much, or seeing it being used too much - because it is. But it definitely implies to Tom Cleverly.

It's odd....i really thought there were rules against cancelling PL loans. Guess there could be a clause or something....

Regardless, would be an absolute horrific bluff by ManU...cough up cash for this player who excels at going sideways and backwards, who has contributed 0 assists this season and who is FREE in the summer or we cancel the deal...Villa have to call that bluff, they would really only risk losing a warm body and not a contributor at this point.

"Fine, cancel the loan"

"Uhhh, nevermind keep him"

"no, no....you guys are supposed to be desperate for warm bodies, pay up."

"We'll play the lad from the chippy....about as productive"

"sigh.....just keep him then"

Yeah I have no idea as I'm also of the impression there are rules against cancelling season long PL loans. The rules may be different with loan-to-buy deals as effectively the loaning side could trigger a "do not sell" clause and therefore see the player return, but I've no idea. But I've no doubt the loan deal from the Villa perspective was to cover in the event of a Delph departure, and with him staying I just see entirely no need for it.

It's possible though that Pulis would want Capoue. Would be very Pulis-like to match Capoue with Yacob for a shored up midfield.

Apparently Villa have called the bluff and United didn't recall him.....Cleverly apparently would like to move to Everton in the summer on a free.

No idea why Everton would want him....but there you go.

Cleverley for free as a squad option isn't terrible business for Everton given their aging squad, but if I were them I'd rather buy up a promising youngster.

So, apparently West Brom really want him. Makes sense with Pulis; looked over the profile for him, saw his height, knew he wanted him immediately.
