Tottenham have clinched the signing of Chelsea’s Carlo Cudicini for around
£1 million.

Manager Harry Redknapp moved for the 35-year-old Italian after growing concerned about his goalkeepers.

First-choice Heurelho Gomes has been playing through injury and Cesar Sanchez, who is deemed sub-standard, has been allowed to join Valencia until the end of the season.

Gomes has adapted to the Premier League after an initially disastrous switch from PSV last summer, but Cudicini will provide stiff competition for the Brazilian after finally stepping out of the shadows at Stamford Bridge.

Cudicini, whose Chelsea contract ends in the summer, moved to the club 10 years ago but he has been second choice to Petr Cech since the Czech arrived in 2004.

He has only made 25 League starts in the last five seasons and has been frustrated at his place in the Chelsea pecking order.

because there is more chance of gomes making errors and being dropped than cech

And, while it's not exactly the top priority, he's also cup-tied so we'd still be fielding one of the Untrusted Ones on Saturday.

If its true he'd be an outstanding number two - he was one of the best keepers in the league even before Cech arrived and has always been quality when called upon/

Good signing if true - he's a solid backup, able starter & also provides Gomes with competition.

The best we could do for 2nd choice keeper. No complaints if it happens.

The oldest of old chestnuts. We've signed him, like, half a dozen times in the past, so why not again? Welcome back Signor Cud. It wouldn't be a transfer window without you.

Agreed that CC would be a good capture, especially if Cesar is moving out.

However, I cannot find this anywhere on the net except the Daily Mail and Wikipedia. Until it appears on Spurs.co.uk, BBC or SSN, I'm not getting too excited.
