TBH I don 't see how you can say you don't think its a poor system and then list incidents that the system is failing on. I think any inconsistency is a failure in the system surely?

When I said it should be used for 'did the ball cross the line', that's a matter of fact decision, we agree there.

Thats the application of it... the application of the system is poor and inconsistent. If the system was used properly, then yesterdays should have been reviewed the same as todays.

Im not saying its perfect and do think improvements are certainly required. I was totally against the VAR but can see its merits and benefits.

What I am curious about is who instigates the VAR check, is it the ref who didnt see an incident for example or is it the video referee who lets the ref know he missed something etc - thats my main grip with it not to mention the time taken etc

Before the match yesterday on the bbc

"Tottenham's 3-0 win at Wembley has changed that picture though with Spurs now given a 93% chance of reaching the quarter-finals. Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris St-Germain are the only teams with a higher chance than Spurs of a place in the last eight."

New summer signing with VAR in mind? Italian, experienced, what's not to like?

How can you interpret what I said like that? You can actively try and block a shot with pretty much any other body part than your arms is my view of it.

Unless you are Suarez and decide getting sent off is worth the penalty kick

Always nice to see Qatar/Abu Dabi/Russian oligarch money projects failing in the game. They win the transfer league but thank God for football being *a game*. Even if it's United on the winning side.

I honestly can't remember which Son one you're talking about, what game was this? I'm drawing a complete blank.

Dortmund away. Son clearly fouled in the box so pen and red card the outcome if ref sees again.

It was yesterday.

Has there been an occasion the ref has gone to check screen and not given pen? Because that's my issue. Seems as though once ref goes over he feels he has to give it because effectively it means the other refs on panel think it's a pen.

Totally agree. The ref's need to grow some balls and OWN the mantra "clear and obvious".

Except once that happens it'll be open to accusations of bias.

Really difficult. Perhaps look at how the NFL have handled this? But even then they missed a massive howler in the recent playoffs

How do you know they are ignoring it? Perhaps they are looking at the overall picture given the massive injury list they had and don't place the same weight on 'fucked up formation and tactics' in a game they won 3-1 as you do :D
Perhaps!

I think Porto play with spirit and energy. Roma have a bad season and often there games look completely without an idea. I think they would suit us better.
Agree that Roma aren't looking good but I just think Porto are lacking so much in quality over the pitch that we'd wipe the floor with them in the home leg no matter how hard they work

The fact that we are all debating it by default means it's not a clear and obvious error. Maybe they need to have three VAR assistants in the video room and only if all three agree its a clear error then they notify the actual ref.

Let that not take anything away from United's absolutely heroic performance.

Because you made it sound like the defender should only be allowed to stand still and block it, and even bothering trying to get across in line and to block the ball wasn't on.

Fair enough, I don't think it was a deliberate block with the arm. Sometimes it just happens.

Also can't get enough of teams with Fly Emirates on their shirts losing games.
