Maybe Daniel leaked it that batshuayi is having a medical at Chelsea when they haven't even shown an interest so we can gazump them at the medical stage???

For me, if the options are
Batshuayi for €40m
Or
Janssen for €20m
Then it's Janssen every day of the week, invest the other €20m in a player capable of unlocking a defence.
Job done, DM, CF and WF, let's crack on with preseason.

See your point but surely you know by now it's never invest the other €20m in another player with Levy. It's save €20m!!!

I do support prudent spending particularly with the new stadium to pay for. I just hope the 0 net spend / profit over the past few windows is all being used to fund the stadium so that when we move in we can spend big

Been waiting for something from him.. I think what we have to remember is a deal for Batshuayi is unlike almost any other transfer given the economic situation Marseille are in.. Stories will be leaked, true or not, from every which way possible.

This one's not over til it's over.

ignore what i sai, i looked at his older tweets, he says going to chelsea too. think its just a case of what @Bobbyh99 said. they wont let him do a medical until after the wales/euros? signed subject to medical sounds the way its going.

We don't need to spend 40 million euros (or whatever) on a second striker when our first striker is a premier league top scorer.

I can't really be devastated about not signing him either when I have never even seen him play.

I keep on going on about his cost and I think it's a major problem for us. Marseille need €25 million next week. I'm assuming that's the full amount next week. We wouldn't give them a massive chunk of money like that. We spread the transfer fee over a few years like most NORMAL teams. Only teams like Chelsea, Man U and man city can do things like that because they so much money. We can't. The berahino transfer last summer showed us that as it was played out so publicly.

I think that's always been the problem and why we haven't signed him.

I really don't think Marseille need 25M euros next week. They are not in danger of going into administration, so it's not so much an urgent need of cash.

As far as I know they need to sell to satisfy the French authorities to avoid a transfer embargo, so all they require is to show in their accounts they have sold him. The total asset value would be enough regardless of the time frame to receive the full amount.

IMO we won't sign him because we have no intention (and never had) of paying close to what they wanted. Did the transfer chicken game again and missed out.

If anyone has leaked this for purpose, then it is going to be Marseille. Time is running out and they need to sell. As I posted the other day 3 teams were buzzing around the asking price(not us) and it appears they have all now met it. This is still very much in the players hands, although Chelsea must be far more appealing than Pallace or Spam.

I do wonder though where this leaves Lukaku, who Chelsea have been chasing for a while now. Trying to force Everyone hand perhaps by making this so public, so quickly?

More meltdowns this morning then I see. Perspective really is a wonderful thing.

Like most of us I also wanted to sign Batshuayi but not for 40m euros. That shit is crazy. I'm still a little disappointed but if we had no decent strikers and we were looking to get MB as our number 1 forward then I'd be mad as hell that we hadn't matched Chelsea's bid but the reality is that he was always going to be backup/rotation with Harry Kane and that kid is our present and future. We simply cannot be paying 40m euros for a backup striker that may not even pan out in this league.

We were always counting on the fact that we were his best option and that would allow us to do a good deal but when Chelsea start flashing their knickers at players, usually they fall over themselves to sign for them as they know they'll be getting paid crazy money.

There may not ever be a day that we can compete with them financially but frankly, I don't think we'd want to at the prices they are paying. Batshuayi would've been a gamble at 25m let alone 40m. Let those scumbags have him.

I don't get this Harry Kane has to be the number one striker is it in his contract? It's not about Harry Kane it's about tottenham hotspur... If a new striker comes in and and performs better then that's who should play. Kane has lots of improving to do and in recent months has sometimes played for himself rather than the team. Competition is what's needed to take him to the next level not some guy who comes in to play 2nd fiddle....

Do we know for a fact the player himself has agreed to this deal, or is it just another case of a club having a bid accepted?

Surely if Chelsea have a bid accepted he will go there? Although I suppose we could immediately match the exact terms of their bid and wages and let him decide, but I'm sure you and everyone else knows that's never going to happen.

Hard to say. People assume so purely based on recent past history, but we have a lot going for us also. Plenty of his international team mates, CL, Potchetino(who he's already met) etc. Training ground, new stadium etc.

Personally I'm not bothered - if we get him then I'd be delighted, if we don't then we obviously have alternatives identified and we will bring one of them in. Not sure why some people are getting themselves worked up over this guy who (lets be honest) most of us had not watched much before we were linked with him.

oh ok. I wasn't sure whether they actually needed the money in their bank accounts. If what you say is the case then that makes sense.

Ive bolded the bit in your quote as to what I think has happened. But like others have said, its not done until its done.

Stick to beat Levy with. Couldn't give a shit about this guy personally.

Yeah sadly thats probably true. If we do not sign a striker by the end of the window then Levy will rightly get a lot of abuse but the window hasnt even opened yet and all the ITK so far indicates we have at least 3 strikers in our sights. People need to take a chill pill.
